Inscribed and signed by author on back of Title Page, Christmas 1930. Second Printing. Bound in original Brown beveled cloth boards with gilt lettering and pasted on portrait of Felix Moses on front. spine with gilt lettering, Bevelled boards. top page edges are gilted. (Limited to 1,000 copies) Addenda. Author obit from a Cincinnati newspaper is laid in. Has several illustrations and Geological Map of Boone County on front endpaper. This is a rare inscribed and signed copy. The book would be in near fine condition if not for a very minor frey at top of headboard and corners beginning to show wear, and prior owners signature in front endpaper. Green covered book in very good to fine shape. The dust jacket is a bit dingy with minor edge wear. It is now in a clear protective cover. This book is unique in that it is an advanced reading copy which includes the release flyer, a letter from author to a Doctor Bennett in Lima Ohio answering Dr. Bennett's letter offering supplies to Lloyd's pharmacy plant. The letter is signed by Lloyd and there is also an inscription by Lloyd to Dr. Bennett in the book. John Uri Lloyd was a pharmacist, scientist, manufacturer and novelist. His mostimportant contributions were in the field of pharmacy and pharmacognosy. He was in large part responsible for the development and acceptance of an American materia medica. Lloyd won the Ebert Prize, the premier award for pharmaceutical research, three times, and the Remington Medal, pharmacy's highest award, in 1920. Hunter kneeling down between two trees with rifle. (see scan) John Uri Lloyd (19 April 1849 9 April 1936) was an American pharmacist influential to the development of pharmacognosy, ethnobotany, economic botany, and herbalism. Rare in this condition.He also wrote novels set in northern Kentucky. Examples are Stringtown on the PIke, Warwick of the Knobs, Scroggins, and Red Head.
