Original 1853 edition not a reprint. Brown decorative cover, small chip in spine and wear to top and bottom of spine.. Not exlibrary. Contents clean and tight. Corner of end paper torn out. Some Chapter titles: The Holy Spirit resisted by hatred and opposition to Divine truth, The Holy Spirit resisted by excessive worldliness, The Holy Spirit resisted by vain amusements and worldly pleasure, and others. Very clean book. Book now in archival sleeve to protect condition. "CALEB KIMBALL, son of Caleb and Elizabeth (Hammond) Kimball, was born June 3, 1798, in Ipswich, Mass and died June 19, 1879. His father died when he was young, and at fourteen yearsof age he was apprenticed to a blacksmith in a neighboring town, where heremained until he was twenty-one years old. At the age of nineteen he became a Christian, with a strong desire to preach the Gospel." He entered Dartmouth College in 1822, and graduated in 1826. He then entered Siminary at Andover. Caleb became ill while studying at Andover. Being too feeble to take charge of a parish, he was ordained in 1832, and under commission from the Massachusetts Home Missionary Society he labored in Gloucester Harbor, South Dennis, and Harwich, Mass. He learned to write on a system for the blind and commenced writing Christian books. ; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 108 pages
