3902 Waters, Captain John M. BLOODY WINTER Critical Months in the Battle of the Atlantic
Princeton NJ D. Van Nostrand Company 1967 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
Book and dust (not price clipped) in very good condition. Former owner's name neatly written in front. Map endpapers. A reviewer said "I am so glad that John Waters took the time to research and write this book. It is extraordinary, accurately capturing in vivid detail the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II. This is a perspective from both the Allied convoy escort ships and the German submarines that were bent on stopping the flow of material from North America to Britain and Russia.As a historical document it is filled with primary source material that has been woven into an accurate true story that makes you feel as if you are actually there experiencing the action as it is described. This is possible because not only did the author thoroughly research the subject using war records, ships logs, and personal interviews he also had first hand experience." ; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 279 pages

Brown cover with gold print and black borders. Clean contents. Rear cover has crease. Not a reprint. Former owners book plate in front.eorge D. Watson was born in Virginia in 1845. His parents and grandparents were Methodists. This, in those days, was a precious heritage. Family prayer, Sunday School, and many other godly influences were thrown around him. Frequently a series of special services would be held in his district, but George declared that he was the black sheep of the flock—passionate and self-willed, the worst boy of the whole six in his family. Though frail in body during his last years, the inner spirit was unquenchable. In 1923, he passed to be forever in the presence of Him, Whom he had sought so constantly to know and to serve on earth.We provide delivery tracking on US orders. ; 162 pages

"Richard Watson (1781–1833) was a British Methodist theologian who was one of the most important figures in 19th century Methodism.Watson was born in Lincolnshire and entered the Methodist itinerancy in 1796, serving as President of Conference in Britain in 1826 and as secretary to the Wesleyan Missionary Society from 1821 to 1825. In Britain, he was a leading opponent of slavery.Watson was a gifted writer and theologian. In 1818 he wrote a reply to Adam Clarke's doctrine of the eternal Sonship of Christ; Watson believed that Clarke's views were unorthodox and, therefore, not faithfully Wesleyan. In 1823 he began to publish his Theological Institutes, which remained a standard for many years. It was the first attempt to systematize John Wesley's theology and, by extension, Methodist doctrine. In 1831, he wrote a well-regarded life of John Wesley.We provide delivery tracking on US orders." (Wikipedia) ; 7.50 X 5 X 0.50 inches; 323 pages;

3935 Welsh, Louise The Bullet Trick (Author Signed)
Canongate U.S. 2006 1841957941 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Signed by Author on Title Page. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book.Crime Writers Association award winner Louise Welsh follows up her hit artworld noir The Cutting Room with a slick literary suspense thriller set among the decadent domains of contemporary Berlin, Glasgow, and London. Meet William Wilson, a foundering so-called mentalist, conjurer, and above all — despite frequently being the opening act for strippers — a master performer. When his agent books him for a string of cabaret gigs in Berlin, he's hoping his luck's on the turn. Among the showgirls and grifters of Berlin's scandalous underground, Wilson can forget his lonely heart, his muddled head, and, more important, his past. But secrets have a habit of catching up with William and as he gets in over his head with a certain brand of lucrative after-hours work, the line between what's an act and what's real starts to blur.

Bringing the seedy glamour of the burlesque scene magnificently to life, Louise Welsh's deft contemporary tale is her richest and most macabre yet. A thundering thriller of Glasgow drinking dens, Soho clubs, and dark Berlin backstreets, The Bullet Trick is also an adults-only suspense, guaranteed to keep you guessing until its final explosive flourish.; 1.34 x 7.8 x 5.2 Inches; 384 pages; p; Signed by Author

3947 Wesley, John Explanitory Notes upon The New Testament

Original 1845 printing not a reprint. Leather binding worn and front hinge cracked. Contents clean, pages yellowing. Fully indexed. John Wesley was an English Anglican cleric and theologian who, with his brother Charles and fellow cleric George Whitefield, founded Methodism. A key step in the development of Wesley's ministry was, like Whitefield, to travel and preach outdoors. In contrast to Whitefield's Calvinism, Wesley embraced the Arminian doctrines that dominated the Church of England at the time. Moving across Great Britain and Ireland, he helped form and organise small Christian groups that developed intensive and personal accountability, discipleship and religious instruction. Most importantly, he appointed itinerant, unordained evangelists to travel and preach as he did and to care for these groups of people. Under Wesley's direction, Methodists became leaders in many social issues of the day, including prison reform and the abolition of slavery.We provide delivery tracking on US orders. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 445 pages

3970 Wheeler, Vivian , Mckinney, Roy The John Wheeler Family of Charles County Maryland, Correction Notes (photocopy only)
1960's PhotoCopy; Various Manila Folder or Binder Very Good with no dust jacket
These are loose notes of a Vivian Wheeler who discovered an error in the Genealogy of John Wheeler 1630-1693 of Charles Co. Md and Some of his descendents published by Walter V. Ball in 1966. There also seems to be additions made by a Roy McKinney in 1986. The focus is on Ignatius Wheeler a great grandson of John on page 63 (Ball work) and one Ingatius Wheeler also a great grandson of John on page 48. She discovered that the information is incorrect and documents same. This section has 48 pages with index. There is also a section with numbers from 1-63 (less pages 12-43 which are missing) which looks to be copied from the Ball book. The final section is a 17 page section of type written notes on this line of Wheelers. If accurate, this corrective work is a valueable resource for this family line. "The absolute validity is not warranted, but what work of genealogy is? ; Photocopy Only; 8vo 8" - 9" tall;

The Lyons Press 1999 1558219048 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Signed by Author on Title Page. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. Whether he's engaging in mock aerial combat or riding an Ididarod sled, Randy Wayne White is one of America's most adventurous travelers. In this collection he studies anti-terrorist driving techniques, dives for golf balls in an alligator-infested pond at a country club, hunts his fellow man with a paint gun, ice-fishes for walleye with X-ray-stunned night-crawlers, and goes pig-shooting with Dr. Pavlov. With self-effacing optimism, White captures the joys and fears of wandering the earth's surface with an eclectic cast of weirdo fellow-travelers - a frog that won't jump, a group of expatriate Brits who've developed an interesting cure for "road jaundice," and even a mad Australian scientist. Though he rarely finds what he's looking for - like the legendary landlocked bull sharks of Lake Nicaragua, or the secret to successful winter fishing on a Minnesota lake - he develops a Zen-like "passion for the means" and a rare ability to revel in the rib-aching humor of each exotic trip. Green cover with black print. Detailed chapter notes. Matthew Parker (6 August 1504 – 17 May 1575) was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1559 until his death in 1575. He was also an influential theologian and arguably the co-founder (with Thomas Cranmer and Richard Hooker) of a distinctive tradition of Anglican theological thought. Parker was one of the primary architects of the Thirty-Nine Articles, the defining statements of Anglican doctrine. The Parker collection of early English manuscripts, including the book of St. Augustine Gospels and Version A of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, was created as part of his efforts to demonstrate that the English Church was historically independent from Rome, creating one of the world's most important collections of ancient manuscripts. 3997 Whitney, George Some account of the early history and present state of the town of Quincy, in the commonwealth of Massachusetts
Christian Register Office...S.B. Manning, Printer 1827 First Edition; Various Paperback Fair with no dust jacket
This is a very worn copy with many chips around outside of pages. Covers have been re-stapled. None of the text on pages are affected by the ragged edges of pages. There is the signature "Horatio Alger, Chelsea" on cover AND on title page at top. It is suspected that this is the signature of the father of Horatio Alger, Jr.. Horatio Sr. was a Univeralist preacher and lived in Chelsea (where he also served part-time as the postmaster, farmer, and grammar school teacher) where Jr. was born in 1832. Sr. had financial troubles and in 1844 he moved from Chelsea to Marlborough, Massachusetts for a higher paying position. In 1845 he was installed as pastor of the Second Congregational Society. Horatio Jr. attended Gates Academy and entered Harvard at the age of 16. He went on to become one of the most prolific 19th century American authors. Horatio Jr. followed in his fathers footsteps and became a Unitarian minister in addition to writer. The publication date of this imprint corresponds to Horatio Jr's birth and childhood and the publisher The Christian Register (1821–1957) was the leading American Unitarian weekly, published by the American Unitarian Association further confirming association of both Horatio Sr. and Jr. to the publisher. A nice provenance to the imprint. Booklet now in archival sleeve to protect condition. Rare if not unique imprint. This is NOT a reprint.; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 64 pages; Signed by Notable Personage, Unrelated
