3769 Walpole, Hugh A prayer for my son (author signed)
Doubleday, Doran & Company, inc 1936 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Green cover shows sunfading. Author signed on end paper. Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole, Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole (13 March 1884 - 1 June 1941) was a New Zealand-born English novelist. He was the son of an Anglican clergyman, intended for a career in the church but drawn instead to writing. His skill at scene-setting, vivid plots, and high profile as a lecturer brought him a large readership in the United Kingdom and North America. He was a best-selling author in the 1920s and 1930s, but has been largely neglected since his death. After his first novel, The Wooden Horse, in 1909, he wrote prolifically, producing at least one book every year. He was a spontaneous story-teller, writing quickly to get all his ideas on paper, seldom revising. His first novel to achieve real success was his third, Mr Perrin and Mr Traill, a tragicomic story of a fatal clash between two schoolmasters. During the First World War he served in the Red Cross on the Russian-Austrian front, and worked in British propaganda in Petrograd and London. In the 1920s and 1930s he was much in demand not only as a novelist but also as a lecturer on literature, making four exceptionally well-paid tours of North America. As a gay man at a time when homosexual practices were illegal in Britain, he conducted a succession of intense but discreet relationships with other men.; 8 X 5.60 X 1.50 inches; 355 pages; Signed by Author

New York Knopf 2007 0307262839 Book Club Edition; First Impression Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Book and dust new. Dust has Mylar cover. Signed by several heros of WWII. Includes: Medal of Honor winner Hershel W. Williams from Iowa Jima,From the Band of Brothers Jim "Pee Wee" Martin, and Don Jakeway (101st Airborne) with Don Malarky and Al Mampre (506th Parachute Infantry Regiment), Sid Phillips and Art Staymato (1st Marine Division), and Ned Paluch (Normandy). Seller obtained these signatures personally at a show in Ohio. "This lavishly illustrated companion to the September PBS documentary series reduces the American side of WWII to the local and personal. Documentarian Burns (The Civil War) and historian Ward (The Civil War: An Illustrated History) foreground the iconic experiences of ordinary people, including a young girl interned in a Japanese camp in the Philippines, marines in the thick of combat in the Pacific and a fighter pilot who exchanges letters with his sweetheart. Their stories are full of anxiety and exhilaration, terror and pathos." The vivid voices that speak from these pages are not those of historians or scholars. They are the voices of ordinary men and women who experienced—and helped to win—the most devastating war in history, in which between 50 and 60 million lives were lost." Enriched by maps and hundreds of photographs, including many never published before, this is an intimate, profoundly affecting chronicle of the war that shaped our world. Rare if not unique signed copy by military surviving Vets. ; PBS; Photographs, Maps, Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 480 pages; Signed by Collection of Signatures

Broke, recently divorced, and a total deadbeat, Bob Wells has spent his life as a psychiatrist only doing good in the world. When one of his patients with clear paranoid delusions starts to lose a grip, Bob has no choice but to intervene. Emile Bardan is haunted by demons, and he believes that someone is trying to steal his most prized possesion, the legendeary Mask of Utu. Bob thinks it's all part of Emile's imagination until he discovers that Emile is telling the truth and that the mask is worth millions. It's Bob who may actually be the one losing his grip. He's tired of helping people for nothing, tired of being treated like dirt-and while he may have met the girl of his dreams, he doesn't want to lose her because he can't take care of her. There is only one thing to do:Bob is going to steal the mask himself: But doing so may mean making the biggest mistake of all-as he proceeds down a path into a dark abyss from which there is no return. A reviewer said "I am so glad that John Waters took the time to research and write this book. It is extraordinary, accurately capturing in vivid detail the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II. This is a perspective from both the Allied convoy escort ships and the German submarines that were bent on stopping the flow of material from North America to Britain and Russia. As a historical document it is filled with primary source material that has been woven into an accurate true story that makes you feel as if you are actually there experiencing the action as it is described. This is possible because not only did the author thoroughly research the subject using war records, ships logs, and personal interviews he also had first hand experience." ; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 279 pages

His parents and grandparents were Methodists. This, in those days, was a precious heritage. Family prayer, Sunday School, and many other godly influences were thrown around him. Frequently a series of special services would be held in his district, but George declared that he was the black sheep of the flock—passionate and self-willed, the worst boy of the whole six in his family. Though frail in body during his last years, the inner spirit was unquenchable. In 1923, he passed to be forever in the presence of Him, Whom he had sought so constantly to know and to serve on earth. We provide delivery tracking on US orders. ; 162 pages
