2404 Moore, John Hammond Albermarle, Jefferson's County, 1727-1976 (Author Signed)
Charlottsville, Va University Press 1976 0813906458 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket Signed by Author
First edition signed by the author on title page, John H. Moore. The focus of this volume is on the people of Albemarle County over a two hundred and fifty year history. The study is divided into parts by "turning points" in local life-1727m 1820, 1888, and 1945. (from cover flap) After almost 90 years, 25 books, numerous articles and millions of words, Columbia historian John Hammond Moore sums up any advice he might have for others this way:“Keep going.”For decades, this historian/journalist/scholar has done just that: Kept traveling. Researching. Interviewing. Editing. Teaching. Writing. He’s delved into a gazillion topics from Confederate food to German prisoners of war in America during World War II, to lynchings in South Carolina to a pre-Hollywood biography of 1940s era movie star Errol Flynn. “John is so thorough, so careful in his writing – he’s made major contributions to our understanding of South Carolina history,” says Allen Stokes, who for 25 years was director of the University of South Carolina’s Caroliniana Library, the state’s major university history repository.; ; Signed by Author

No publication date on title page, but research of the Morgan papers at Marshall University puts it around 1896. Cover has log cabin on front, and has minor soiling. Contents clean with light browning due to age, has photos. This is a very interesting book written about the authors life, service in the Confederate Army of Virginia, loss of his brother at Fayetteville, W. Va. And his reflections on the Civil War as many as 20 years after. He was given a special pass to return home to see his dying sister after his grandfather, Col. J. M. H. Beale, wrote to him. One of his last comments in the book is "I do not believe it is in my nature to be anything but Southern and Democratic." John Morgan Sr. was probably born in Shenandoah County, Virginia, near the beginning of the nineteenth century. In 1832, he married Elizabeth Ann Beale, daughter of Colonel James Madison Hite Beale, and granddaughter of William Steenbergen, both wealthy landowners in Shenandoah County. Their son, John Morgan, Jr.(author of The Last Dollar), was born in 1840. They were also the parents of two other sons, James B. and William Steenbergen Morgan, and a daughter. In 1846, John and Elizabeth Morgan brought their family to a farm on the Kanawha River in what is now Putnam County, opposite the mouth of the Pocatalico River. During the Civil War, the three sons served in the Confederate Army: John Jr. was a member of Company A, 22nd Virginia Regiment; James was a captain the 36th Battalion, Virginia Cavalry, and William, who was killed at Fayette Court House, (West) Virginia in 1862, was a member of Company A, 36th Regiment. The daughter died of consumption during the war. After the Civil War, John, Jr. and James returned to Putnam County and engaged in farming.John Morgan, Jr., was born i n 1840. On October 12, 1875, John Morgan, Jr., married Samantha Jane Atkeson, daughter of Thomas and Virginia Brown Atkeson. Samantha A. Morgan was born in Mason County, (West) Virginia, on January 27, 1843. She and John Morgan Jr. were the parents of four sons: John Morgan III, born August 1876; Thomas Atkeson, born April 15, 1878; Rembrandt, born June 19, 1880; and Albert Sidney, birth date unknown. The Morgan Family Papers 1831-1935 are contained in the Special Collections Department at Marshall University, Huntington, W. Va. Very Handsome. Possibly no publication date in item however history shows author published this title in 1856 and craftsmanship would indicate an early period printing. The Dutch Republic was a republic that existed from the formal creation of a confederacy in 1581 by several Dutch provinces (which earlier seceded from the Spanish rule) until the Batavian Revolution in 1795. It was the predecessor state of the modern Netherlands and the first nation state of the Dutch people. John L. Motley was born on April 15, 1814 in Dorchester, Massachusetts. His grandfather, Thomas Motley, a jail-keeper (a public position) and innkeeper in Portland, Maine, had been a Freemason and radical sympathizer with the French Revolution. Des Moines, IA Authors ca. 1965 PhotoCopy; First Impression Manila Folder or Binder Good with no dust jacket
No date. Photo copy only. Ready for 3 ring binder. Fully Indexed. this is a comprehensive work starting with James Ellison, b. 1783 in Virginia (Now West Virginia). Other lines covered are Conaway, Maxwell, Gilet, Vanderpol, De hooges, jarrett, Milburn, See, Huffman. An Errata sheet discloses an error in the numbering sequence of pages. All of the page numbers are included but are not in sequential order starting after page 282. the data seems (not verified absolutely) to be correct by page number but the pages are not in order. Two missing pages (359, 364) are from the index section so having them missing is not critical to the data. This seems to be an original printing error and was not discovered until 1986. This is a rare work and provides the researcher with a lot of data on these family lines. We provide delivery tracking on US orders.; Photocopy Only; Photocopies of pictures; Folio; 365 pages;

2499 No Author Project for Demil (Meltdown) of Captured "Haiti Weapons"
Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Distribution East 1995 1st Edition Thus; First Impression Plastic comb binding Very Good with no dust jacket
A complete list of the weapons taken from the country of Haiti in 1995 after the U.S. led "Operation Uphold Democracy" to return Jean-Bertrand Aristide to the Presidency. The list colomn headings are: Milvanno (number assigned by inspector?) , catagory, type (cal)(Mfg), Model (rifle, pistol, shotgun, machine gun, etc.) serial number, Received from (Police, Palace, city, camp), Date recieved (mo/day/yr), Form 3161 (turn-in form? yes-no). It looks as though the total was 16,954 weapons. This list is invalueable for collectors of weapons like the M1 Garand as it gives the serial number. Thus, the weapons listed are no longer in circulation anywhere as they were melted down after being seized. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 280 pages

2500 No Author Tin Type of Young Girl
New York Unknown c1896 First Edition; First Impression Ephemera Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
Tin type of young girl in period clothing ( late 1800's) She has hand resting on wooden plant stand. A great representation of period dress, hair style, and stoic pose. The tintype was developed in 1853 using a similar technique to the ambrotype. Called a collodion process, this technique requires the photographic material to be coated, exposed, and developed on site. This is not a book. The tintype image, however, was mounted against a thin sheet of black-enameled (or japanned) iron instead of glass. Unlike earlier photographs, a tintype is unbreakable.Interestingly, the term tintype is a misnomer. Because the iron they were mounted on was so thin, many assumed it must be tin, and the name stuck.The entire tintype process was quick and cheap. Within a few minutes, the customer could take an image home with him at the cost of a penny or less at first ; Photograph; ; 64mo 3" - 4˝" tall; 17 pages
