87 Rice, Otis K. Frontier Kentucky (Author Signed)
The University Press of Kentucky 1982 081310212X / 9780813102122 1st Edition Thus Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Green cover with white lettering. Inscribed and signed by author Otis K. Rice. ; Kentucky Bicentennial Bookshelf; 12mo 7" - 7" tall; 152 pages;

" Otis Rice tells the dramatic story of how the first state beyond the mountains came into being. Kentucky dates its settled history from the founding of Harrodsburg in 1774 and of Boonesborough in 1775. But the drama of frontier Kentucky had its beginnings a full century before the arrival of James Harrod and Daniel Boone. The early history of the Bluegrass state is a colorful and significant chapter in the expansion of the American frontier. Rice traces the development of Kentucky through the end of the Revolutionary War. He deals with four major themes: the great imperial rivalry between England and France in the mid-eighteenth century for control of the Ohio Valley; the struggle of white settlers to possess lands claimed by the Indians and the liquidation of Indian rights through treaties and bloody conflicts; the importance of the land, the role of the speculator, and the progress of settlement; the conquest of a wilderness bountiful in its riches but exacting in its demands and the planting of political, social, and cultural institutions. Included are maps that show the changing boundaries of Kentucky as it moved toward statehood.

The history of pioneer Lexington 1779-1806,, Staples, Charles Richard
98 Staples, Charles Richard The history of pioneer Lexington 1779-1806,
Lexington KY Transylvania press 1939 Later; First Impression Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket
Red cloth cover. Reprint of the 1939 edition by Staples. A record of Lexington during it's formative years.Lexington, consolidated with Fayette County and often denoted as Lexington-Fayette, is the second-largest city in Kentucky and the 60th-largest city in the United States. By land area, Lexington is the 28th largest city in the United States. Known as the "Horse Capital of the World," it is the heart of the state's Bluegrass region. With a mayor-alderman form of government, it is one of two cities in Kentucky designated by the state as first-class; the other is the state's largest city of Louisville. Lexington was founded by European Americans in June 1775, in what was then considered Fincastle County, Virginia, 17 years before Kentucky became a state. A party of frontiersmen, led by William McConnell, camped on the Middle Fork of Elkhorn Creek (now known as Town Branch and rerouted under Vine Street) at the site of the present-day McConnell Springs. Upon hearing of the colonists' victory in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, they named their campsite Lexington. It was the first of many American places to be named after the Massachusetts town.[5] The risk of Native American attacks delayed permanent settlement for four years. ; Kentucky; 361 pages;
