Story of Old Allegheny City, Committee, Allegheny Centennial
22 Committee, Allegheny Centennial Story of Old Allegheny City
Allegheny Centennial Committee 1941 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
Signed by A.T. Kirschler Jr. the son of the last Mayor of Old Allegheny City who in 1907 became deputy Mayor of Pittsburg after Allegheny City was consolidated with Pittsburg, Pa. Allegheny City, known today as Pittsburgh’s North Side, was the third-largest city in Pennsylvania when it was controversially annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1907. Founded in 1787 as a reserve land tract for Revolutionary War veterans in compensation for their service, it quickly evolved into a thriving urban center with its own character, industry, and accomplished residents. Among those to inhabit the area, which came to be known affectionately as “The Ward,” were Andrew Carnegie, Mary Cassatt, Gertrude Stein, Stephen Foster, and Martha Graham. Once a station along the underground railroad, home to the first wire suspension bridge, and host to the first World Series, the North Side is now the site of Heinz Field, PNC Park, the Andy Warhol Museum, the National Aviary, and world headquarters for corporations such as Alcoa and the H. J. Heinz Company. Letter laid in from Joseph C. Clark to Victor M. Matz thanking him for loaning the book to him for research. Fully indexed with many surnames. Rare. ; American Guide Series; Photographs, Maps; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 235 pages; Signed by Notable Personage, Related

The Deserter, Davis, Richard Harding & John T. McCutcheon
28 Davis, Richard Harding & John T. McCutcheon The Deserter
Charles Scribner's Sons 1917 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
Dust in brodart cover. When Mr. Davis wrote the story of The Deserter, he could not possibly have foreseen that it was to be his last story the last of those short stories which gave him such eminence as a short-story writer. He apparently was as rugged and as vigorous as ever. And yet, had he sat down to write a story which he knew was to be his last, I do not think he could have written one more fittingly designed to be the capstone of his literary monument. The theme is one in which he has imconsciouidy mirrored his own ideals of honorable obligation, as well as one which presents a wholesome lesson to young soldiers who have taken an oath to do faithful service to a nation.Davis, an American author of romantic novels and short stories, was also the best known reporter of his generation. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. ; 7.30 X 4.80 X 0.40 inches; 43 pages

He sold his medical practice, home, and office equipment.[2]De Haan attended the nearby Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. He pastored two churches in Grand Rapids and ran large Bible classes.[1]In 1938, one of the Bible classes in Detroit began being broadcast on radio at a fifty-watt station. Two national networks picked up the Radio Bible Class program, its coverage growing to 600 stations around the world at the time of De Haan's death.[1]He was involved in an automobile collision in July 1965 where he sustained serious injuries.
