English professor Karen Pelletier is well known for her provocative manner and iconoclastic opinions, so it's no surprise that, when asked to name the Greatest Book of the Twentieth Century, she perversely cites a commercial blockbuster from the 1950s. A reprint version of Oblivion Falls, the only novel by Mildred Deakin who disappeared shortly after its publication, quickly becomes the hottest book around, an Oprah's Book Club selection and a New York Times bestseller. At the height of the media frenzy, a reporter who discovers the reclusive author on a goat farm in upstate New York, is found dead in her driveway. Would the once-notorious Milly Deakin shoot to kill in order to protect her privacy? The intrepid Professor Pelletier deploys all her literary and investigative skills to exonerate the now-embattled older woman and restore her hard-won peace. ; A Karen Pelletier Mystery ; 0.97 x 9.55 x 6.4 Inches; 272 pages; p; Signed by Author

The life of the Hon. Col. J. Gardiner, Who was slain at the battle of Preston Pans, September 21, 1745. With an appendix relating to the ancient family of the Monroes, of Fowlis, Doddridge, Philip
152 Doddridge, Philip The life of the Hon. Col. J. Gardiner, Who was slain at the battle of Preston Pans, September 21, 1745. With an appendix relating to the ancient family of the Monroes, of Fowlis
Leeds Davies 1815 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket
Written by the author to David Gardner, Esq. who was a cornet in Sir John Cope's regiment of Dragoons and the son of the late Col. Gardnier. This battle is not a battle honour for British Regiments. The regiments present at the battle were: Gardiner’s (13th) and Hamilton’s (14th) Dragoons, Guise’s (6th), Lee’s (44th), Murray’s (46th) and Lascelles (47th) Foot. The Col was killed at Prestonpans southeast of Edinburg in Scotland during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. The Royal Army took a horrific beating by the Scottish. Much of this account speaks of Gardners family history and his conversion to Christianity. Account has been rebound in beautiful marble cover with gold and black label. Original text with uneven cut pages and yellowing due to age. Also contains an Elegy on the death of Col. Gardiner by Rev. Mr. Thomas Gibbons. Pags 139-141 have the top right corner torn out with a very small amount of text missing, otherwise complete. Rare. ; 161 pages

Blue grey cover with black cloth quarter spine. Cover is sunfaded around edges. Dust in near fine condition and covered with mylar cover. There is an inscription to Betty & Bob on front endpaper signed by Doran. There is a third original signature by Doran under his photo opposite title page. A fourth notable addition is a signed letter from George Doran to a Betty Weber in Chicago with postal cancellation dated May 1944 from Prescott, Arizona where the author lived . In the letter he mentions he is sending his book Chronicles of Barabbas which he published in 1934. The letter, envelope, and news articles of his death were all inside this the 1952 edition. Doran mentions his friendship with the Weber's and it appears they kept his letter in their copy of this 1952 Chronicles of Barabbas. A very rare if not unique set of memoriablia from the life of George Doran. George H. Doran was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1869. He moved frequently from New York City to London, England during his publishing career, and was well acquainted with most of the writers he published. In 1935, George Doran wrote Chronicles of Barabbas 1884-1934, that told about the publishing business and its personalities.
