Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and Kindred Sciences, New, Revised and Enlarged, Volumes 1 & 2, Clegg, Robert I.
122 Clegg, Robert I. Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and Kindred Sciences, New, Revised and Enlarged, Volumes 1 & 2
Chicago, Il The Masonic History Company 1929 Revised Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
Two volume set.Revised and enlarged. Blue grey leather cover with gold lettering.Very clean contents some pages and end papers show browning due to age. Former owners name in front. Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that traces its origins to the local fraternities of stonemasons, which from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of masons and their interaction with authorities and clients. The degrees of freemasonry, its gradal system, retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, journeyman or fellow (now called Fellowcraft), and Master Mason. These are the degrees offered by craft, or blue lodge Freemasonry. There are additional degrees, which vary with locality and jurisdiction, and are now administered by different bodies than the craft degrees. The basic, local organisational unit of Freemasonry is the lodge. The lodges are usually supervised and governed at the regional level (usually coterminous with either a state, province, or national border) by a Grand Lodge or Grand Orient. There is no international, world-wide Grand Lodge that supervises all of Freemasonry. Each Grand Lodge is independent, and they do not necessarily recognise each other as being legitimate. In the area of History, especially Masonic History, very few men stand out like our Frater Robert Ingham Glegg, IXº. Many Masons may recognize his name; yet they cannot quite put their finger on his accomplishments. Probably his most remarkable achievement was his later revisions and addendum to "Mackey's Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and its Kindred Sciences" in conjunction with other noted Masonic scholars such as Bro:. William James Hughan. In the 1800's (with original author --Bro. Mackey) and continuing into the early 1900s and even today, that work stands-out as the preeminent reference guide for "all things Masonic." Frater Clegg was appointed the Chief Adept of the New Jersey College S.R.I.C.F., Under Dispensation, on April 29, 1931, even before that College received its Charter on May 10, 1932. Sharpe's Triumph Richard Sharpe and the BAttle of Assaye, September 1803, Cornwell, Bernard
131 Cornwell, Bernard Sharpe's Triumph Richard Sharpe and the BAttle of Assaye, September 1803
London Harper Collins 1998 0002256304 / 9780002256308 1st UK; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
This is not an exlibrary, does not have price clipped, and is in excellent condition. Very clean contents, probably read only once. Now in mylar archival dust cover to preserve condition. Has slight tilt. With the return of the brave English sergeant Richard Sharpe--here, to battle the mercenary forces of the Mahratta confederation in India in 1803--Bernard Cornwell claims his rightful place alongside Patrick O'Brian as a contemporary master of historical narrative. Sharpe's Triumph is a riveting story of betrayal and revenge that showcases the deft blend of suspenseful military adventure and sweeping historical detail that has made each new installment of the Richard Sharpe series a number one bestseller in Great Britain and around the world. In the four years since he earned his sergeant's stripes at the bloody siege of Seringapatam, young Richard Sharpe has lead a peaceful existence. But this relatively easy life meets with a brutal end when he is the sole survivor of a murderous attack at the hands of Major William Dodd, a cold-blooded English officer who has defected from the East India Company to join the mercenary forces of the Mahratta confederation.Sharpe rises from the killing field at Fort Chasalgaon vowing to avenge his dead comrades, even if it means pursuing the turncoat Dodd to the very ends of the continent. It is a quest that takes him deep into the heart of enemy territory, where the accepted rules of engagement have been discarded, where ever-shifting loyalties create an environment of dangerous uncertainty, forcing Sharpe to guard against attacks from enemy and friend. The paths of treachery ultimately lead to the small village of Assaye, where Sharpe's company joins the army of Sir Arthur Wellesley--the future Duke of Wellington--to take on the Mahratta horde. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wellesley bravely seizes an unexpected geographical advantage and charges into the white heat of a battle that will make his reputation. It is a bloody confrontation that will make Sharpe's name, too--but first he must survive the carnage and live to tell the tale of what will be remembered as one of the greatest battles of its century. May have minor dust spotting on top edge from shelf storage over time otherwise as new condition.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 400 pages

Realms of Gold a Journey in Search of the Myceneans, Cottrell, Leonard
132 Cottrell, Leonard Realms of Gold a Journey in Search of the Myceneans
New York Graphic Society 1963 First Edition; Various Hardcover Very Good in Near Fine dust jacket
First edition stated. Book and dust in very good condition. "A hidden or secret thing . . . that was how the Mycenaean civilization appeared to me long before I wrote a book about it eleven years ago; and so, I must admit, it still appears today, despite the vistas opened by archaeological and linguistic research over the past two decades. Why, then, add yet another book to the many which have been and are being published? The only justification I can offer is the attraction of something which is neither completely known nor completely unknown, like a great mountain under drifting cloud which reveals now a valley and then a peak, but never the whole." It was signed on 28 June 1919 in Versailles, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand which directly led to World War I. The other Central Powers on the German side of World War I signed separate treaties.[6] Although the armistice, signed on 11 November 1918, ended the actual fighting, it took six months of Allied negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference to conclude the peace treaty.
