Story of Old Allegheny City, Committee, Allegheny Centennial
2 Committee, Allegheny Centennial Story of Old Allegheny City
Allegheny Centennial Committee 1941 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
Signed by A.T. Kirschler Jr. the son of the last Mayor of Old Allegheny City who in 1907 became deputy Mayor of Pittsburg after Allegheny City was consolidated with Pittsburg, Pa. Allegheny City, known today as Pittsburgh’s North Side, was the third-largest city in Pennsylvania when it was controversially annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1907. Founded in 1787 as a reserve land tract for Revolutionary War veterans in compensation for their service, it quickly evolved into a thriving urban center with its own character, industry, and accomplished residents. Among those to inhabit the area, which came to be known affectionately as “The Ward,” were Andrew Carnegie, Mary Cassatt, Gertrude Stein, Stephen Foster, and Martha Graham. Once a station along the underground railroad, home to the first wire suspension bridge, and host to the first World Series, the North Side is now the site of Heinz Field, PNC Park, the Andy Warhol Museum, the National Aviary, and world headquarters for corporations such as Alcoa and the H. J. Heinz Company. Letter laid in from Joseph C. Clark to Victor M. Matz thanking him for loaning the book to him for research. Fully indexed with many surnames. Rare. ; American Guide Series; Photographs, Maps; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 235 pages; Signed by Notable Personage, Related

Canongate U.S. 2006 1841957941 / 9781841957944 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Signed by Author on Title Page. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book.Crime Writers Association award winner Louise Welsh follows up her hit artworld noir The Cutting Room with a slick literary suspense thriller set among the decadent domains of contemporary Berlin, Glasgow, and London. Meet William Wilson, a foundering so-called mentalist, conjurer, and above all — despite frequently being the opening act for strippers — a master performer. When his agent books him for a string of cabaret gigs in Berlin, he's hoping his luck's on the turn. Among the showgirls and grifters of Berlin's scandalous underground, Wilson can forget his lonely heart, his muddled head, and, more important, his past. But secrets have a habit of catching up with William and as he gets in over his head with a certain brand of lucrative after-hours work, the line between what's an act and what's real starts to blur.

Bringing the seedy glamour of the burlesque scene magnificently to life, Louise Welsh's deft contemporary tale is her richest and most macabre yet. A thundering thriller of Glasgow drinking dens, Soho clubs, and dark Berlin backstreets, The Bullet Trick is also an adults-only suspense, guaranteed to keep you guessing until its final explosive flourish.; 1.34 x 7.8 x 5.2 Inches; 384 pages; p; Signed by Author
