Looks new. Signed by both authors. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover . The first biography of the vagabond, hard-boiled writer who rocked Hollywood during the Roaring TwentiesThe son of an Irish ditch-digger, Jim Tully (1886–1947) left his hometown of St. Marys, Ohio, in 1901, spending most of his teenage years in the company of hoboes. Drifting across the country as a “road kid,” he spent those years scrambling into boxcars, sleeping in hobo jungles, avoiding railroad cops, begging meals from back doors, and haunting public libraries. After six years on the road, he jumped off a railroad car in Kent, Ohio, with wild aspirations of becoming a writer. While chasing his dream, Tully worked as a chain maker, boxer, newspaper reporter, and tree surgeon. All the while he was crafting his memories of the road into a dark and astonishing chronicle of the American underclass. Rare.; 9.30 X 6.40 X 1.40 inches; 378 pages; Signed by All Authors

Story of Old Allegheny City, Committee, Allegheny Centennial
4 Committee, Allegheny Centennial Story of Old Allegheny City
Allegheny Centennial Committee 1941 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
Signed by A.T. Kirschler Jr. the son of the last Mayor of Old Allegheny City who in 1907 became deputy Mayor of Pittsburg after Allegheny City was consolidated with Pittsburg, Pa. Allegheny City, known today as Pittsburgh’s North Side, was the third-largest city in Pennsylvania when it was controversially annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1907. Founded in 1787 as a reserve land tract for Revolutionary War veterans in compensation for their service, it quickly evolved into a thriving urban center with its own character, industry, and accomplished residents. Among those to inhabit the area, which came to be known affectionately as “The Ward,” were Andrew Carnegie, Mary Cassatt, Gertrude Stein, Stephen Foster, and Martha Graham. Once a station along the underground railroad, home to the first wire suspension bridge, and host to the first World Series, the North Side is now the site of Heinz Field, PNC Park, the Andy Warhol Museum, the National Aviary, and world headquarters for corporations such as Alcoa and the H. J. Heinz Company. Letter laid in from Joseph C. Clark to Victor M. Matz thanking him for loaning the book to him for research. Fully indexed with many surnames. Rare. ; American Guide Series; Photographs, Maps; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 235 pages; Signed by Notable Personage, Related

Sherman's Mississippi Campaign, Foster, Buck T.
8 Foster, Buck T. Sherman's Mississippi Campaign
University Alabama Press 2006 0817315195 / 9780817315191 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Looks new unread. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover.With the fall of Vicksburg to Union forces in mid-1863, the Federals began work to extend and consolidate their hold on the lower Mississippi Valley. As a part of this plan, Major General William Tecumseh Sherman set out from Vicksburg on February 3, 1864, with an army of some 25,000 infantry and a battalion of cavalry. They expected to be joined by another Union force moving south from Memphis and supported themselves off the land as they traveled due east across Mississippi. Sherman entered Meridian on February 14 and thoroughly destroyed its railroad facilities, munitions plants, and cotton stores, before returning to Vicksburg. Though not a particularly effective campaign in terms of enemy soldiers captured or killed, it offers a rich opportunity to observe how this large-scale raid presaged Sherman’s Atlanta and Carolina campaigns, revealing the transformation of Sherman’s strategic thinking. ; 1.1 x 9.1 x 6.1 Inches; 232 pages;
