Liberty Prize Catalog
1 Liberty Prize Catalog
New York, NY Macfadden Publications 1934 First Edition; First Printing Magazine Good with No dust jacket as issued
Some soiling to cover with creases to corners. Contents clean and bright. This catalog was used by "salesboys" who sold magazines in the 1930's for MacFadden Publications. They would earn coupons "greenies and brownies" which they could then redeem for prizes. Bernarr Macfadden (1868-1955) " became the most successful publisher of magazines in history. He was the first magazine publisher to establish a large, loyal readership. His circulation numbers were the highest in the industry exceeding even the publications of William Randolph Hearst. He truly revolutionized the publishing industry. Virtually overnight Macfadden's net worth increased astronomically. By 1924 at age 56 he had become a multi-millionaire" (bernarrmacadden.com). A rare, if not unique, example of this method of selling which gained momentum after the "Great Depression". Rare.; Vol. 10; Photographs, illustrations

Hardcover edition, 1995. Green cover with gold print. Settlers of Maryland 1679-1700 extends Gust Skordas's renowned Early Settlers of Maryland through the last quarter of the 17th century Extracted from the Hall of Records, Annapolis. This book contains the surname, the County abbreviation (corresponding name in the introduction p. x), Name of the tract, acreage, date, and reference numbers to the numbered folios in the Land Office Registers. There is also a full index with corresponding page numbers by Tract. On balance, this is one of the most original contributions to Maryland genealogy. "Peter Wilson Coldham, FASG (1926 2012 in London), was a British genealogist. He was noted as "distinguished scholar of colonial American immigration." Wikipedia ; 0.6 x 8.4 x 5.5 Inches; 246 pages; Settlers of Maryland 1679-1700 extends Gust Skordas's renowned Early Settlers of Maryland through the last quarter of the 17th century, identifying several thousand immigrants and their colorfully named tracts. Based on the same series of records as Skordas--Land Office books on file at the Hall of Records in Annapolis--the entries in this work are arranged by family name, county, name of tract granted, acreage, date, and reference to original source(s). Tract names often suggest English places familiar to the settler--perhaps places of origin or residence--and they are so many and so various that an index of tract names has been appended to the book. On balance, this is one of the most original contributions to Maryland genealogy in years.

Nail Pullers, Fredrich, Raymond
8 Fredrich, Raymond Nail Pullers
AuthorHouse 2005 1420874527 / 9781420874525 First Edition; Various Paperback As New with no dust jacket Signed by Author
As new. Inscribed on title page, "We must all pull together, Raymond P. Fredrich". This book will be enjoyed by "The Antique Tool Researcher, the Flea marketer, the Tool Collector Historian", and many others. The 39 pages of Patent information is very useful for that person looking for History of Patent Dates, Patent Numbers, or the Patentee. The Nail Puller does the same job as the claw on the hammer, but it does it differently. Mainly, this is about the Slide Hammer type of Nail Puller, and many variations of it. There was a time when each nail was forged by a Blacksmith . That made the nail more valuable than the wood it had been driven into. Wood was very plentiful in the mid-19th century. My book will show you examples of Square Nail Pullers that go back to 1849. If it became necessary to change your resident location, you might possibly take your house apart, just to get the nails. You might even burn your house down and pick up nails in the ashes. Herein contained are many examples of the Slide Hammer type of Nail Puller. From the stand point of History, there are many copies of Trade Magazine advertising, showing the advertisement and some times the cost of the tool, as far back as 1890. I have included a "Guide to Scarcity", which will help you determine the "Frequently Found" or the "Not Likely to be found" Nail Puller. Included are 252 copies of patent sketches taken from the original patents, giving the Patentee, (inventor and/or manufacturer) the patent date and patent number. There are more patents in the patent office, than nail pullers that were manufactured. Contained herein are about 60 pictures of more than 100 Nail Pullers in my collection, which are captioned to reflect points of interest. I was unable to find one of each Nail Puller ever produced, but here is a good representation of what I could find over a 5 year period . For the Researcher, included are 39 pages of index composed by Patentee, Patent Date, and Patent Number, which are cross referenced one to the other.; Illustrated; 0.9 x 10.8 x 8.2 Inches; 440 pages; Signed by Author

Viking 1977 0670437654 / 9780670437658 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
Book and dust in good to very good condition. "The Coastwatchers, also known as the Coast Watch Organisation, Combined Field Intelligence Service or Section C, Allied Intelligence Bureau, were Allied military intelligence operatives stationed on remote Pacific islands during World War II to observe enemy movements and rescue stranded Allied personnel. They played a significant role in the Pacific Ocean theatre and South West Pacific theatre, particularly as an early warning network during the Guadalcanal campaign. In early November 1942, two coastwatchers named Read and Mason on Bougainville Island radioed early warnings to the United States Navy about Japanese warship and air movements (citing the numbers, type, and speed of enemy units) preparing to attack the US Forces in the Solomon Islands. Admiral William Halsey, Jr. later said that the two men had saved Guadalcanal because their reports allowed US forces to launch aircraft in time to engage the attackers." No date. Photo copy only. Ready for 3 ring binder. Fully Indexed. this is a comprehensive work starting with James Ellison, b. 1783 in Virginia (Now West Virginia). Other lines covered are Conaway, Maxwell, Gilet, Vanderpol, De hooges, jarrett, Milburn, See, Huffman. An Errata sheet discloses an error in the numbering sequence of pages. All of the page numbers are included but are not in sequential order starting after page 282. the data seems (not verified absolutely) to be correct by page number but the pages are not in order. Two missing pages (359, 364) are from the index section so having them missing is not critical to the data. This seems to be an original printing error and was not discovered until 1986. This is a rare work and provides the researcher with a lot of data on these family lines. We provide delivery tracking on US orders.; Photocopy Only; Photocopies of pictures; Folio; 365 pages;

15 No Author Listed Calendar of transcripts including the annual report of the Department of archives and history (Virginia)
Richmond, VA Davis Bottom, Superintendent Public Printing 1905 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Very Good with no dust jacket
Not a reprint but the original publication printed in 1905.Uncut pages.Very clean contents. Marbled end papers 1/4 leather spine and corners worn and cracked. A unique bookplate in front has the handwritten note that "This book belongs to Douglas Southall Freeman" as it came out of his personal library. Freeman was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, the son of a Confederate soldier during the American Civil War. His father was Walker Garland Freeman and his mother was Bettie Hamner. He did his undergraduate work at Richmond College where he joined the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. He received his Ph.D. in history from Johns Hopkins University at the age of 22.A long-time resident of Richmond, Virginia, Freeman served as editor of The Richmond News Leader from 1915 to 1949. However, it was his work as a historian and biographer that earned greatest recognition.He won Pulitzer Prizes for two of his books, his four-volume biography of Robert E. Lee, and his seven-volume biography of George Washington (a seventh volume First in Peace was written after Freeman's death by J. A. Carroll and M. W. Ashworth, two of his historical associates). He was also the author of the three-volume Lee's Lieutenants: A Study in Command.Freeman's treatments of the American Civil War are often cited as examples of the Lost Cause movement, emphasizing the glory and nobility of the Southern generals and the futility of their fight against the power of the North. While Freeman certainly does emphasize the nobility of Lee's character, he does not say that Lee made no mistakes, nor does he say that the North only won because of superior numbers. For instance, this passage shows Lee misjudging his real opponent, and also expresses admiration for Abraham Lincoln's character:[1] rare if not unique. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
