Looks new. Signed by both authors. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover . The first biography of the vagabond, hard-boiled writer who rocked Hollywood during the Roaring TwentiesThe son of an Irish ditch-digger, Jim Tully (1886–1947) left his hometown of St. Marys, Ohio, in 1901, spending most of his teenage years in the company of hoboes. Drifting across the country as a “road kid,” he spent those years scrambling into boxcars, sleeping in hobo jungles, avoiding railroad cops, begging meals from back doors, and haunting public libraries. After six years on the road, he jumped off a railroad car in Kent, Ohio, with wild aspirations of becoming a writer. Simon & Schuster 2001 0743212967 / 9780743212960 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Author signed. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. An exquisitely written novel of love and betrayal, of money and power, set at the apex of that time of glitz and innocence known as the Jazz Age. CINCINNATI, 1927... Lawyer George Remus became the country's biggest bootlegger, grossing over $80 million until his arrest. Upon his release from prison, he learns that his beautiful wife, Imogene, has left him and that his bank accounts are empty. On the morning of their divorce, he runs her car off the road in the middle of rush hour in Eden Park and shoots her to death. Shocked and fascinated by this horrible crime, the country gears up for a sensational trial pitting the man known as "the king of the bootleggers" against Chief Prosecutor Charlie Taft, the youngest son of the former president. The trial is a national spectacle, a lens focused on the fabulous rise and fall of the Remus empire and the tragic love story within it, and an attempt to answer some tantalizing questions: What actually happened to the fortune? What are the motives of the federal agent who brought Remus down? What complex emotions and desires, leading ultimately to the ruin of three men, really lie within the heart of the woman known as the Jazz Bird? Based on a true story, The Jazz Bird is at once a love story, a crime novel, and the tale of the courtroom battle between two powerful men whose respective futures hang in the balance.; 0.99 x 9.5 x 6.44 Inches; 320 pages; Signed by Author

Death Will Have Your Eyes A Novel about Spies, Sallis, James
10 Sallis, James Death Will Have Your Eyes A Novel about Spies
New York St. Martin's Press 1997 0312155131 / 9780312155131 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book.Sallis' Lew Griffin mysteries, although not widely known, are revered by many for their combination of New Orleans atmosphere and existential toughness. Both those qualities are present in this intriguing but overly introspective spy novel. David is a former CIA hit man, trained as part of an elite corps during the height of the cold war. Long retired from the agency and slowly constructing a human identity for himself, he is abruptly called back into action to track a former cohort turned rogue. What transpires is an elaborate cat-and-mouse car chase, moving to and fro across the American landscape and concluding in New Orleans. The real action, though, is internal, as David drives and broods, contemplating the spy's cypherlike lot. Much of this material is interesting enough, but the delicate balance between story, character, and idea is never quite right, leaving the reader impressed by the ingredients but slightly disappointed in the dish itself. Still, any Sallis novel belongs in all but the smallest mystery collections. Bill Ott, Book review Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover.; 8.30 X 5.70 X 0.80 inches; 256 pages

Signed by Author on Title Page. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. "Because Lydia didn't have arms or legs, she shelled out three thousand bucks to a washed up middleweight named Cap to give her ex-husband the beating of his life." But the beating turns to murder, and the murder into lust and desperation between Lydia and an underworld clean-up man. Meanwhile, overgrown frat boy car thieves take up cop killing as a side hobby. When these paths cross, a horror show of violence unfolds as they all slide into a hell of their own design, surrounded by the neon and noise of the casino strip on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Violent, vivid, life at hyper-speed. This debut novel from the editor of Plots with Guns is a noir nightmare that asks how much is too much in a relationship, and what is the cost of leaving? Ken Bruen calls it "the darkest song I've ever read". May have dust spotting on top edge from shelf storage over time.; 1 x 8.6 x 5.6 Inches; 184 pages; Signed by Author

Sidney Smith, 8 x 10 Black and White Photo signed, Smith, Sidney
12 Smith, Sidney Sidney Smith, 8 x 10 Black and White Photo signed
c1917 First Edition; First Impression Non-Book Very Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
This is an 8 x 10 Photo of Sidney Smith under a statue of Andy Gump holding his two dogs. (Original not a reproduction) The photo has his inscription on face that says " To John G. Kidd, Yours for Fun. Sidney Smith." Robert Sidney Smith was the creator of the great American family epic 'The Gumps'. Smith was already almost forty years old when the first panel of this strip was published, in 1917. In 1908, he published his first comic, 'Buck Nix'. When he got hired by the Chicago Tribune the name changed to 'Old Doc Yak'. In 1919, Smith was forced to abandon this strip due to the immense popularity of 'The Gumps', which had greatly boosted the Tribune's circulation. The Gump family brought Smith fame and riches, which he spent on several houses and cars. The depression of the 1930s did not affect him, for he was able to sign a new contract with the Tribune that paid him a million dollars over the next three years, plus a brand new Rolls Royce as a bonus. Driving home after having closed the deal, Sidney Smith collided with another car and was killed instantly. After that 'The Gumps' were taken over by Gus Edson. The Gumps inspired Amos 'n' Andy and thus had a huge influence on the introduction of radio serial continuity and radio-television situation comedies, as detailed by broadcast historian Elizabeth McLeod in the "Andy Gump to Andy Brown" section of her popular culture essay, "Amos 'n' Andy—In Person" and her book, The Original Amos 'n' Andy: Freeman Gosden, Charles Correll, and the 1928–43 Radio Serial (McFarland, 2005). Mainly due to the research of McLeod, Sidney Smith is now regarded as a seminal figure in 20th-century popular culture. Extremely Rare! We provide delivery tracking on US orders.
