In 1846 he became the superintendent. He began writing Longking's Questions and Notes which became the standard textbook of Methodist Sunday Schools. He also taught Sunday School at the Green Street N.Y. Church with a class of over 100. Some of his students included Dr. Charles Taylor- later missionary to China, others included notable businessmen of the era and Church leaders.
