The Truth About Aimee Semple McPherson A Symposium, Adamic, Louis, et. al.
2 Adamic, Louis, et. al. The Truth About Aimee Semple McPherson A Symposium
Girard, KS Haldeman-Julius Company 1926 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
Paperback booklet has tan cover black print. Former owners name in front. Cover shows soiling, contents clean. Paper yellowing due to age. Published articles by author and Edward Campbell, Mike Schindler, and Robert Mason exposing Aimee as a fraud. " Aimee Semple McPherson (October 9, 1890 – September 27, 1944), also known as Sister Aimee, was a Canadian-American Los Angeles–based evangelist and media celebrity in the 1920s and 1930s. She founded the Foursquare Church. McPherson has been noted as a pioneer in the use of modern media, especially radio, and was the second woman to be granted a broadcast license. She used radio to draw on the growing appeal of popular entertainment in North America and incorporated other forms into her weekly sermons at Angelus Temple. In her time she was the most publicized Christian evangelist, surpassing Billy Sunday and her other predecessors. She conducted public faith-healing demonstrations before large crowds; testimonies conveyed tens of thousands of people healed. McPherson's articulation of the United States as a nation founded and sustained by divine inspiration continues to be echoed by many pastors in churches today. News coverage sensationalized misfortunes with family and church members; particularly inflaming accusations she had fabricated her reported kidnapping, turning it into a national spectacle McPherson's preaching style, extensive charity work and ecumenical contributions were a major influence in revitalization of American Evangelical Christianity in the 20th century."(Wikipedia) Rare work. 5 Albanov, Valerian & Linda Dubosson; Roberts, David & Jon Krakauer & Alison Anderson In the Land of White Death An Epic Story of Survival in the Siberian Arctic
New York Modern Library 2000 0679641009 / 9780679641001 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Inscribed "I hope you enjoy this true adventure, Christmas 2000" and signed. The signature could be of author or just someone gifting the book. Jon Krakauer is the writer of the preface and author of Into the Wild and Into Thin Air. Dust has been price clipped otherwise in new condition. In 1912, six months after Robert Falcon Scott and four of his men came to grief in Antarctica, a thirty-two-year-old Russian navigator named Valerian Albanov embarked on an expedition that would prove even more disastrous. In search of new Arctic hunting grounds, Albanov's ship, the Saint Anna, was frozen fast in the pack ice of the treacherous Kara Sea-a misfortune grievously compounded by an incompetent commander, the absence of crucial nautical charts, insufficient fuel, and inadequate provisions that left the crew weak and debilitated by scurvy. For nearly a year and a half, the twenty-five men and one woman aboard the Saint Anna endured terrible hardships and danger as the icebound ship drifted helplessly north. Convinced that the Saint Anna would never free herself from the ice, Albanov and thirteen crewmen left the ship in January 1914, hauling makeshift sledges and kayaks behind them across the frozen sea, hoping to reach the distant coast of Franz Josef Land. With only a shockingly inaccurate map to guide him, Albanov led his men on a 235-mile journey of continuous peril, enduring blizzards, disintegrating ice floes, attacks by polar bears and walrus, starvation, sickness, snowblindness, and mutiny. That any of the team survived is a wonder. That Albanov kept a diary of his ninety-day ordeal-a story that Jon Krakauer calls an "astounding, utterly compelling book," and David Roberts calls "as lean and taut as a good thriller"-is nearly miraculous. First published in Russia in 1917, Albanov's narrative is here translated into English for the first time. Haunting, suspenseful, and told with gripping detail, In the Land of White Death can now rightfully take its place among the classic writings of Nansen, Scott, Cherry-Garrard, and Shackleton. A treatise on church government, Formerly called Anarchy of the Ranters, &c., being a two-fold apology for the church and people of God, called in ... good order and discipline in the church, Barclay, Robert
12 Barclay, Robert A treatise on church government, Formerly called Anarchy of the Ranters, &c., being a two-fold apology for the church and people of God, called in ... good order and discipline in the church
Philadelphia PA S. W. Conrad 1822 Later Printing; First Edition Hardcover Good with no dust jacket
The original 1822 edition. Leather cover worn but contents tight and complete. Some foxing to pages. "Being a two-fold apology for the church and people of God called, in derision, Quakers. To which is added and epistle to the National meeting of Friends in Dublin concerning good order and discipline in the church" Very Rare. We provide delivery tracking on US orders. Robert Barclay (23 December 1648 – 3 October 1690) was a Scottish Quaker, one of the most eminent writers belonging to the Religious Society of Friends and a member of the Clan Barclay. He was also governor of the East Jersey colony in North America through most of the 1680s, although he himself never resided in the colony. The Ranters were one of a number of nonconformist dissenting groups that emerged around the time of the English Commonwealth (1649–1660). They were largely common people, and there is plenty of evidence that the movement was widespread throughout England, though they were not organised and had no leader.[Wikipedia]Ranters were regarded as heretical by the established Church and seem to have been regarded by the government as a threat to social order. They denied the authority of churches, of scripture, of the current ministry and of services, instead calling on men to listen to the divine within them. In many ways they resemble the 14th century Brethren of the Free Spirit. Rare.; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 124 pages
