To D-Day and Back Adventures with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a World War II POW: A memoir, Bearden, Bob
3 Bearden, Bob To D-Day and Back Adventures with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a World War II POW: A memoir
Zenith Press/Author 2007 0760332584 / 9780760332580 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Signed by two World War II heros, Bob Bearden on title page and by another 507th infantryman Jim "Pee Wee" Martin. Bob Bearden's To D-Day and Back was not just another paratrooper-themed memoir trying to ride on the success of others. Several distinctions set this work apart from others. Bearden told his story from a very personal angle. Coupled with the use of everyday prose, the book is another one of those works that felt much like storytelling by a member of the family. It is not just another war memoir, but rather, the book told how the war interacted with Bearden's life. n the predawn hours of D-Day, June 6, 1944, Bob Bearden and his comrades in the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment jumped into the inky skies over Normandy. Their mission: defend the west bank of the Merderet River against German counterattack. After long months of training they were finally taking the war to the Germans. Bearden’s time in combat proved shortlived, however, when he was captured on D-plus-2, June 8. This was only the beginning of a new war for his survival through multiple German POW camps, his so-called “liberation” by Russian tanker crews more bent on exacting vengeance upon the Germans than safeguarding Allied prisoners, and the perilous journey that followed, mostly on foot, along the sandy, snow-covered roads of Germany and Poland on the way to Moscow and eventually, back home to Dallas, Texas.(from inside flap) ; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 304 pages; Signed by Collection of Signatures

The Tigers of Bastogne Voices of the 10th Armored Division in the Battle of the Bulge, Collins, Michael & Martin King
5 Collins, Michael & Martin King The Tigers of Bastogne Voices of the 10th Armored Division in the Battle of the Bulge
Philadelphia PA Casemate 2013 1612001815 / 9781612001814 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover As New in As New dust jacket
First edition with full number line. Signed by both authors (Michael Collins and Martin King) AND a member of the 82nd Airborne Sgt. Don Jakeway and a member of the 101st, Jim "Pee Wee" Martin. The gallant stand of the 101st Airborne Division at Bastogne has long become part of historical and media legend. But how many students of the war realize there was already a U.S. unit holding the town when they arrived? And this unit—the 10th Armored Division—continued to play a major role in its defense throughout the German onslaught."This is a superb detailed account of a less familiar aspect of a famous battle, often providing platoon by platoon and day-by-day details of the role played by the men of the US 10th Armored Division in the defensive of Bastogne, and thus in the wider Allied victory in the Battle of the Bulge" (History of War), "This book vividly portrays the battle with a series of interviews, medal citations and after action reviews. These are well attributed in the end notes, together with some brief statistics and a list of staff roles. The style should appeal to the general reader as well as military readers and there are good maps and illustrations...Most of the books on their role are out of print so this book is a useful addition on the subject." Hitler's Niece A Novel, Hansen, Ron
12 Hansen, Ron Hitler's Niece A Novel
HarperCollins 1999 0060194197 / 9780060194192 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Signed by Author on Title Page. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. In September 1931, a 23-year-old woman was found dead in the Munich flat owned by Adolf Hitler, an unfinished letter on her desk and his handgun on the floor beside her. She was Geli Raubal, the daughter of Hitler's widowed half-sister, and, as Hitler later melodramatically claimed, the only woman he ever loved. Although he had known of Geli since her birth, he was aloof from his Austrian family during his first years as head of the struggling Nazi Party. But in 1927, six years before he became chancellor, Hitler invited his half-sister to become housekeeper of his alpine home in Obersalzberg and to bring along her daughter, offering to pay for Geli's medical studies at the university in Munich. Seeing his niece on a daily basis, he soon fell jealously in love, for Geli was, as Hitler's friends later said, "an enchantress," pretty, fun-loving, witty, flirtatious, and able, as no one else was, to put her strange, high-strung uncle at ease. In a carefully researched historical novel that is haunting, unflinching, shocking, profound, and as compulsively readable as a psychological thriller, Ron Hansen presents Adolf Hitler as he has never before been seen in fiction, but as his intimates must have seen him. And through the eyes of a favorite niece who has been all but lost to history, we see the frightening rise in prestige and political power of a vain, vulgar, sinister man who thrived on hate and cruelty and would stop at nothing to keep the horror of his inner life hidden from the world. Hitler's Niece is a masterpiece, a luminous, suspenseful, beautifully crafted novel, full of passion, events, and insight, that reinforces Ron Hansen's growing reputation as one of our foremost writers of fiction. ; (Author Signed); 1.3 x 9.6 x 6.4 Inches; 320 pages; Signed by Author
