Analysis of Butler's Analogy, Crooks, George Richard
5 Crooks, George Richard Analysis of Butler's Analogy
ca 1950 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Good with no dust jacket
Ink stain at top of pages which does not affect print. Foxing. An early imprint or book section (no binding), printed around 1850-1870, of a discussion of Bishop Butlers discussion of life, death, and life after death. Joseph Butler (1692-1752) wrote his infamous Analogy of Religion, Natural and Revealed, to the Constitution and Course of Nature, in 1736. Butler was born and educated in England as a Presbyterian but became ordained in the Church of England in 1718, and eventually became the Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral and later Bishop of Durham. This is not Hobarts and the author is not revealed, but is most likely George Richard Crooks who republished Butler's Analogy with and Analysis which this paper is mostly that analysis. George Richard Crooks (February 3, 1822 Philadelphia – February 20, 1897) was a United States writer, educator, and Methodist minister. In 1860 Crooks became editor of The Methodist, a publication described by a colleague as "the doughty unofficial rival of the official weekly – The Christian Advocate."[12] In conjunction with John McClintock, he prepared a series of "First Books" in Latin and Greek (1846–1847). In 1852 Crooks edited a republication of Butler's Analogy, for which he added an analysis, index, and biography. (Wikipedia). Heavy foxing to pages and ink spot to top of pages. Rare. Possibly no publication date in item. Paperback may indicate a booklet, phamplet, tract or book.; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 49 pages

Where the Swallowtail Kite Soars The Legacies of Glades County, Florida and The Vanishing Wilderness, Dale, Nancy
7 Dale, Nancy Where the Swallowtail Kite Soars The Legacies of Glades County, Florida and The Vanishing Wilderness
iUniverse, Inc. 2004 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Near Fine with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Bok looks new. Very Rare Author inscribed poem in front along with Authors Signature. Book now in archival sleeve to protect condition. "May you walk with a gentle breeze upon your face- May you wake to the beauty of a lavender sky- May you sleep under a blanket of stars- In Florida Last pristine wilderness- Nancy Dale. Looks new. Palmdale, a remote town in Glades County, population less than 1,000, is on the curb of creeping urbanization. Today, more people than Palmdale's entire population are moving into Florida each day. The pioneer culture and Florida's last wilderness is threatened by growth that exploits "blue gold" water and the land. The sprawling ranches set amidst tall cabbage palm prairies are disappearing. The cost to stay is more than the price to sell with high inheritance taxes and the evaporation of a cattle based economy. The early pioneers forecasted Florida's future in their own lifetime as they struggled to hold onto a way of life in a place where few chose to carve a living.

Their stories predict the high premium of development: light pollution, traffic, sewage, crime and the "napalming" of native trees replaced by "ornamental" shrubs, cement, and gated communities. They foresaw the destruction of natural eco-systems, water shortages and communities where wildlife extermination businesses spring up to destroy "pesky" intruders such as squirrels, woodpeckers, snakes and other Everglades species.

The story of Palmdale, Florida, and its people reflects a proud cultural heritage living on the edge of civilization. Palmdale is a ghost town today with only a few ranches left and the Seminole Indian Tribe living off a small market economy against the odds of metropolitan growth, dollars and political power. This story reflects a tragic national trend threatening the survival of rural America. ; 0.5 x 8.8 x 6 Inches; 180 pages; Signed by Author

The Chaco War (1932–1935) was fought between Bolivia and Paraguay over control of a great part of the Gran Chaco region of South America, which was incorrectly thought to be rich in oil.The Chaco War (1932–1935) was fought between Bolivia and Paraguay over control of a great part of the Gran Chaco region of South America, which was incorrectly thought to be rich in oil. Though the region was sparsely populated, control of the Paraguay River running through it would have given one of the two landlocked countries access to the Atlantic Ocean. This was especially important to Bolivia, which had lost its Pacific Ocean coast to Chile in the War of the Pacific (1883). In international arbitration, Bolivia argued that the region had been part of the original Spanish colonial province of Moxos and Chiquitos to which Bolivia was heir. Meanwhile, Paraguay had begun to colonize the region. Indeed, both Paraguayan and Argentinian planters already bred cattle and exploited quebracho woods in the area, while the small indigenous population of Guaraní-speaking tribes was related to that country's own Guaraní heritage.Paraguay had lost almost half of its territory to Brazil and Argentina in the War of the Triple Alliance and was not prepared to see what it perceived as its last chance for a viable economy fall victim to Bolivia.[1] By the time a ceasefire was negotiated on June 10, 1935, Paraguay controlled most of the region. This was recognised in a 1938 truce, signed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by which Paraguay was awarded three-quarters of the Chaco Boreal. Bolivia did get the remaining territory, that bordered the Paraguay's River Puerto Busch. Some years later it was found that there were no oil resources in the Chaco Boreal kept by Paraguay, yet the territories kept by Bolivia were, in fact, rich in natural gas and petroleum, these being at the present time, the country's largest exports and source of wealth.General Raimundo Rolón Villasanti (1903–1981) was briefly President of Paraguay from January 30, 1949 to February 27, 1949.Many Bolivians felt embarrassed by their country's stunning military blunder during the Chaco War, which led to a mass movement away from the traditional order known as the Generación del Chaco[vague], which was epitomised by the MNR-led Revolution of 1952.; 1; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall

Brigadier General John D. Imboden Confederate Commander in the Shenandoah, Tucker, Spencer C.
19 Tucker, Spencer C. Brigadier General John D. Imboden Confederate Commander in the Shenandoah
The University Press of Kentucky 2002 081312266X / 9780813122663 First Edition Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Inscribed bookplate in front of book to former owner and signed by author. John D. Imboden is an important but often overlooked figure in Civil War history. With only limited militia training, the Virginia lawyer and politician rose to the rank of brigadier general in the Confederate Army and commanded the Shenandoah Valley District, which had been created for Stonewall Jackson.

Imboden organized and led the Staunton Artillery in the capture of the U.S. arsenal at Harper’s Ferry. He participated in the First Battle of Bull Run/Manassas and organized a cavalry command that fought alongside Stonewall Jackson in his Shenandoah Valley Campaign. The Jones/Imboden Raid into West Virginia cut the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and ravaged the Kanawha Valley petroleum fields. Imboden covered the Confederate withdrawal from Gettysburg and later led cavalry accompanying Jubal Early in his operations against Philip Sheridan in Sheridan’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Imboden completed his war service in command of Confederate prisons in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Spencer C. Tucker fully examines the life of this Confederate cavalry commander, including analysis of Imboden’s own post-war writing, and explores overlooked facets of his life, such as his involvement in the Confederate prison system, his later efforts to restore the economic life of his home state of Virginia by developing its natural resources, and his founding of the city of Damascus, which he hoped to make into a new iron and steel center.
