1 Bamforth, Charles A. & Richard A. Bamforth Iron Jaw, A Skipper Tells His Story, Charles N. Bamforth 1895-1975 (Signed by all authors)
Dorrance Pub Co 2002 0805954171 / 9780805954173 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Near Fine with no dust jacket
Signed by both authors. The extraordinary life of Captain Charles N. Bamforth spanned most of the twentieth century, beginning with his childhood at the turn of the century and continuing through his retirement and death during the Cold War era. During his sixty years at sea, Captain Bamforth experienced the Depression, two World Wars, and a number of troublesome labor disputes. Through it all, he also had to navigate loneliness, confusion, and marriage to both his family and the sea. His story is told in meticulous detail and with refreshing honesty. Captain Bamforths handwritten diaries, logs, and personal letters all have been carefully compiled by his sons, Charles and Richard, and reveal as much about the hard-working, unassuming courage of the captain as they do about the turbulent times during which he lived. Mrs. Bush was an engaging women that through adversity and trial will be remembered for her strength and poise. After her husband (President George H.W. Bush) finished his presidency she became a well known speaker and advoate for literacy. Dust jacket now in Brodart mylar protective (clear) cover. Rare signed copy.; Photos; 1.9 x 9.56 x 6.52 Inches; 512 pages;

Barbara Bush is certainly among the most popular First Ladies ever to live in the White House. Politics aside, people worldwide have come to admire her wit, her candor and compassion, as well as her unswerving devotion to her husband and children.

In her memoir, Mrs. Bush for the first time gives readers a very private look at a life lived in the public eye for more than twenty-five years. She begins with a compelling portrait of her early years, including: growing up in Rye, New York, and meeting George Bush; life as a young bride and mother, moving far away from home to West Texas; and the almost unbearable pain of losing a child.

With contemporary American history as the backdrop, Mrs. Bush remembers the shock of learning that her fiancé has been shot down in the Pacific during World War II; the disbelief when a black friend is refused service in a Southern restaurant in the 1950s; and the fear when she is caught in the middle of a student protest march in the 1960s.

She recounts her years in public life, from first moving to Washington when George Bush was elected to Congress; to her experience living in New York as the wife of the Ambassador to the United Nations and in China as wife of the U.S. envoy. She talks candidly about the ups and downs of three presidential campaigns and describes her role as the wife of the Vice President, culminating in the climactic White House years.

Drawing upon excerpts from her diary, which she has compiled for more than thirty years, Mrs. Bush takes us behind the scenes of the Persian Gulf conflict and the end of the Cold War. She talks about both the Bushes' struggle to overcome Graves' disease and how she faced the controversy that erupted at Wellesley College before her commencement speech.

Through the friendships she developed over the years with world leaders and their spouses, we meet and get to know the Gorbachevs, the Thatchers, the Mitterrands, the Mubaraks, and many others. And she tells us why she threw so much of her energy and compassion behind the important cause of making more Americans literate.

This memoir includes hundreds of the funny, often self-deprecating, and occasionally touching anecdotes for which Mrs. Bush is well known: surprising a rat while swimming in the White House pool; accidentally stomping on Boris Yeltsin's foot under the table during a state dinner; wearing a $29 pair of shoes for her husband's inaugural ball.

She also talks about the disappointments of the 1992 presidential campaign and the joys of rediscovering private life, including driving and cooking again for the first time in twelve years.

This is a warm and funny memoir that will charm Mrs. Bush's millions of admirers and earn her many more.; Signed by Author

The Secret Mission to Kill Admiral Yamamoto and Avenge Pearl Harbor. "Operation Vengeance was the American military operation to kill Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto of the Imperial Japanese Navy on April 18, 1943, during the Solomon Islands campaign in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Isoroku Yamamoto, commander of the Combined Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy, was killed on Bougainville Island when his transport bomber aircraft was shot down by United States Army Air Forces fighter aircraft operating from Kukum Field on Guadalcanal. The death of Yamamoto reportedly damaged the morale of Japanese naval personnel, raised the morale of the Allied forces, and was intended as revenge by U.S. leaders who blamed Yamamoto for the attack on Pearl Harbor which initiated the formal state of war between Imperial Japan and the United States." Looks new. Dust in mylar cover. Charles Todd Quintard (December 22, 1824 – February 15, 1898)[2] was an American physician and clergyman who became the second bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee and the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of the South. An adherent of the Oxford Movement (1833-1845), Quintard described himself as a "high churchman" and a "ritualist", identifying with Anglicans who were reviving ritual practices associated, in the popular mind, with Roman Catholicism.[4] In fact, the Oxford Movement leaders attempted to call the Anglican Church to her first principles and roots in history and tradition. To what degree Quintard was actually a Ritualist is a matter to debate.; 9 X 6.30 X 1.20 inches; 285 pages

London Hawthorn Books 1970 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
L'Etang was encouraged to enter medicine by his father. But he was a doctor who preferred to observe rather than to practise, and he did it with a glint in his eyes. He was the best medical copy editor I have ever encountered - precise and totally accurate. He wrote many acclaimed books. He was interested in the effect illness had on world leaders and this resulted in titles including The Pathology of Leadership (1969), Fit to Lead? (1980) and Ailing Leaders in Power 1914-94 (1995).; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 218 pages

14 Perryman, Michael Strange Defeat - The Fall of France NM
Avalanche Press N.D. First Edition; Various Boxed As New with no dust jacket
Boxed war game. In the spring of 1940, the French Army, generally believed to be the best in the world, again faced her mortal enemy, the German Army. With the last war scarcely 20 years past, this one seemed destined to develop along similar lines. British forces came ashore in strength and both nations made a show of cooperating. Few believed that Belgium could stay out of the conflict, but her leaders continued to act as if it was possible. When the attack finally came, the speed and ferocity of modern warfare overwhelmed the Dutch and Belgian armies in the first few days and the French and British not long after. Air power, paratroopers and massed armor caught the Allies flat-footed and unable to effectively respond. In six short weeks two more countries fell under Nazi control, the French Army was defeated and the British ejected from the continent. None could have foreseen this strange defeat just a few short weeks before.Strange Defeat is a sequel to Defiant Russia and Red Vengeance. Like those games, it’s designed as an easy to learn, fun game. The map portrays the Netherlands, Belgium, western Germany and northern France. ; Video Game; 9.25 X 6.25 X 1.25 inches

17 Wesley, John Explanitory Notes upon The New Testament
New York , NY G. Lane & C. B. Tippett 1845 New Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket
Original 1845 printing not a reprint. Leather binding worn and front hinge cracked. Contents clean, pages yellowing. Fully indexed. John Wesley was an English Anglican cleric and theologian who, with his brother Charles and fellow cleric George Whitefield, founded Methodism. A key step in the development of Wesley's ministry was, like Whitefield, to travel and preach outdoors. In contrast to Whitefield's Calvinism, Wesley embraced the Arminian doctrines that dominated the Church of England at the time. Moving across Great Britain and Ireland, he helped form and organise small Christian groups that developed intensive and personal accountability, discipleship and religious instruction. Most importantly, he appointed itinerant, unordained evangelists to travel and preach as he did and to care for these groups of people. Under Wesley's direction, Methodists became leaders in many social issues of the day, including prison reform and the abolition of slavery. We provide delivery tracking on US orders. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 445 pages
