New York Knopf 2007 0307262839 / 9780307262837 Book Club Edition; First Impression Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Book and dust new. Dust has Mylar cover. Signed by several heros of WWII. Includes: Medal of Honor winner Hershel W. Williams from Iowa Jima,From the Band of Brothers Jim "Pee Wee" Martin, and Don Jakeway (101st Airborne) with Don Malarky and Al Mampre (506th Parachute Infantry Regiment), Sid Phillips and Art Staymato (1st Marine Division), and Ned Paluch (Normandy). Seller obtained these signatures personally at a show in Ohio. "This lavishly illustrated companion to the September PBS documentary series reduces the American side of WWII to the local and personal. Documentarian Burns (The Civil War) and historian Ward (The Civil War: An Illustrated History) foreground the iconic experiences of ordinary people, including a young girl interned in a Japanese camp in the Philippines, marines in the thick of combat in the Pacific and a fighter pilot who exchanges letters with his sweetheart. Their stories are full of anxiety and exhilaration, terror and pathos." The vivid voices that speak from these pages are not those of historians or scholars. They are the voices of ordinary men and women who experienced—and helped to win—the most devastating war in history, in which between 50 and 60 million lives were lost." Enriched by maps and hundreds of photographs, including many never published before, this is an intimate, profoundly affecting chronicle of the war that shaped our world. Rare if not unique signed copy by military surviving Vets. ; PBS; Photographs, Maps, Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 480 pages; Signed by Collection of Signatures

Roy T. Williams Servant of God, Williamson, Gideon Brooks
18 Williamson, Gideon Brooks Roy T. Williams Servant of God
Kansas City, MO Nazarene Publishing House, Kansas City, MO 1947 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket Signed by Author
Blue cover gold lettering. Dust Jacket has minor chips in bottom edge and now in Mylar Protective Cover. Signed by author. Roy Williams was born in Milam, Texas on February 14, 1883. His family moved to Many, Louisiana when he was five years old. Williams was not exposed to religion during his childhood; however, at the age of 16 he attended a revival at a Methodist church. It was then that he began practicing Methodism, and although he was originally ridiculed by his family for his decision, they eventually converted to Methodism themselves. In 1908, Williams attended a General Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene with his wife Eunice Harvey Williams and was ordained a minister.Among the first graduates at Texas Holiness University, Williams became the president of the university in 1911 at the age of 28. As president, he changed the name to Peniel University, and it was renamed Peniel College by a later president. Williams resigned in 1913 to become an evangelist, which he continued until 1916 when he was named the General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene after the deaths of the two current superintendents. At 33 years old, he was the youngest person to hold that position, and a later General Assembly set the age limit to 35. He served from 1916 until the end of his life in 1946, the longest time that anyone had ever served.Williams was to give a speech in Columbus, Georgia on October 21, 1945; however, he woke up that morning feeling ill and unable to talk, so the pastor of the church took him to the hospital. When he was fit to travel again, he was taken to his cabin in Missouri. He died on March 25, 1946, days after his arrival at his cabin. The library on the campus of Southern Nazarene University is named after him. About the Author: Gideon Brooks Williamson (1898-1981) was a minister, president of Eastern Nazarene College (1936-1944), general president of the Nazarene Young People's Society (1932-1940), and general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene (1946-1968).[edit] BiographyWilliamson was born November 26, 1898 in New Florence, Missouri, converted and called to preach at an early age in the Church of God (Holiness), and joined the Church of the Nazarene in 1919 when he graduated from John Fletcher College at University Park, Iowa.[1] He pursued further studies at McCormick and Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. He pastored for 16 years, at the Austin Church in Chicago, the Cleveland First Church of the Nazarene in Ohio, and, after he left the presidency at Eastern Nazarene in Massachusetts, the First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, Missouri.
