From the Hague Edition of 1687 with an Introduction & Notes by Gilbert Chinard. In the book Colonial Chesapeake Society Durand commented about the people of Virginia "the people spend most of their time visiting each other...The Land is so rich and so fertil that when a man has fifty acres of ground, two men-servants, a maid and some Cattle, neither he nor his wife do anything but visit among their neighbors." Huguenots were exiled by the Catholic Church in the late 1600's to America, many to Virginia, because of their dissent.
