Inscribed and signed by author for seller at a gun show in Louisville, Ky, 2014. We could call this book Special Operations Recon Mission Impossible. A small group of highly trained, resourceful US Special Forces (SF) men is asked to go in teams behind the enemy lines to gather intelligence on the North Vietnamese Army units that had infiltrated through Laos and Cambodia down the Ho Chi Minh trails to their secret bases inside the Cambodian border west of South Vietnam. The covert reconnaissance teams, of only two or three SF men with four or five experienced indigenous mercenaries each, were tasked to go into enemy target areas by foot or helicopter insertion. They could be 15 kilometers beyond any other friendly forces, with no artillery support. In sterile uniforms with no insignia or identification, if they were killed or captured, their government would deny their military connection. The enemy had placed a price on their heads and had spies in their Top Secret headquarters known as SOG. SOG had three identical recon ground units along the border areas. This book tells the history of Command and Control Detachment South (CCS) The CCS volunteer warriors and its Air Partners - the Army and Air Force helicopter transport and gunship crews who lived and fought together and sometimes died together. This is the first published history of CCS as compiled by its last living commander, some forty years after they were disbanded. It tells of the struggles and intrigue involved in SOG's development as the modernday legacy of our modern Special Operations Commands. Forbidden to tell of their experiences for over twenty years; their After Action Reports destroyed even before they were declassified - surviving veterans team together to tell how Recon men wounded averaged 100 percent; and SOG became the most highly decorated unit in Vietnam and all were awarded the Presidential Unit. Very Rare.; CCS; Photographs and illustrations; 11 X 8.20 X 1.60 inches; 740 pages; Signed by Author

Personal experiences of the Civil War, Seward, Janet W.

Worcester, Ma F. S. Blanchard & Co. 1899 1166553507 / 9781166553500 First Edition; First Printing Paperback Very Good with no dust jacket
This is the original 1899 printing. Janet Seward was the wife of Brigadier General Willam Henry Seward, Jr. who's father was the Governor of New York. Brig. General Seward was also an American Banker from Auburn, N.Y. He left banking on August 22, 1862 to join the Union Army in the U.S. Civil War. "Seward was appointed lieutenant colonel of New York's 138th Infantry Regiment, which became the 9th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment in December 1862. The regiment served in the defenses of Washington, D.C. until it was converted back to an infantry regiment and sent to the Army of the Potomac because of the losses sustained by that army in the Overland Campaign.[2] After fighting at the Battle of Cold Harbor, Seward was appointed colonel of the regiment on June 10, 1864. A few weeks after Seward's promotion to colonel, his regiment was sent north to meet the threat to Washington, D.C. posed by Confederate Lieutenant General Jubal Early's Valley Campaigns of 1864. Seward was slightly wounded in his arm and suffered a broken leg when his horse fell on him after the horse was shot at the Battle of Monocacy on July 9, 1864. He was promoted to brigadier general on September 13, 1864 and in January 1865 was assigned to command a brigade in the Department of West Virginia, which he did until April 1865. He was thereafter known within his family as "The General". Seward commanded the 3rd Division for 6 days after Confederate partisan rangers captured Brigadier General George Crook on February 20, 1865." (Wikipedia) The contents of this booklet was written by Mrs. Seward for "The Fortnightly" a a Woman's Literary Club in Auburn, N.Y. Ianuary 20, 1898. 9 Spielberger, Walter J. & Uwe Feist Sturmartillerie Part 2 Self-Propelled Guns and Flak Tanks - Armor Series 4
Aero Publishers 1967 0816820120 / 9780816820122 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Very Good with no dust jacket
The first major call for a “Sturmartillerie” as a mobile and armored infantry support gun was in 1935 in a memorandum from Erich von Manstein, back then, when he was still a Colonel. (Wettstein, Adrian: Sturmartillerie, S. 3) During combat it became obvious that the combat effectiveness of infantry units was increased by a large degree due to the use of the assault gun units. Due to the high amount of training, firepower and mobility. It should be noted that the assault guns were part of artillery branch, thus they were accustomed to supporting infantry from the get go.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 52 pages

Brigadier General John D. Imboden Confederate Commander in the Shenandoah, Tucker, Spencer C.
10 Tucker, Spencer C. Brigadier General John D. Imboden Confederate Commander in the Shenandoah
The University Press of Kentucky 2002 081312266X / 9780813122663 First Edition Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Inscribed bookplate in front of book to former owner and signed by author. John D. Imboden is an important but often overlooked figure in Civil War history. With only limited militia training, the Virginia lawyer and politician rose to the rank of brigadier general in the Confederate Army and commanded the Shenandoah Valley District, which had been created for Stonewall Jackson.

Imboden organized and led the Staunton Artillery in the capture of the U.S. arsenal at Harper’s Ferry. He participated in the First Battle of Bull Run/Manassas and organized a cavalry command that fought alongside Stonewall Jackson in his Shenandoah Valley Campaign. The Jones/Imboden Raid into West Virginia cut the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and ravaged the Kanawha Valley petroleum fields. Imboden covered the Confederate withdrawal from Gettysburg and later led cavalry accompanying Jubal Early in his operations against Philip Sheridan in Sheridan’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Imboden completed his war service in command of Confederate prisons in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Spencer C. Tucker fully examines the life of this Confederate cavalry commander, including analysis of Imboden’s own post-war writing, and explores overlooked facets of his life, such as his involvement in the Confederate prison system, his later efforts to restore the economic life of his home state of Virginia by developing its natural resources, and his founding of the city of Damascus, which he hoped to make into a new iron and steel center.
