The author was a labor organizer and writer who ran as a third-party candidate for vice president in 1956 before opening a Chicago advertising agency, He died at the age of 80 in 2001. After World War II he returned to Akron and began working at Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.--and organizing again. In 1947, he led 27 strikes, according to Mr. McCloskey's autobiographical notes.
