Signed by author on endpaper. Book is in very good condition except for minor rubs board edges. Rare dust has been covered in mylar archival sleeve. This is a "Souvenir of a Dinner tendered to Meredith Nicholson by his Old Familiar Friends of Indiana on his departure for Paraguay, September 6, 1933" printed on opposit page from title page. " Meredith Nicholson (December 9, 1866 December 22, 1947) was a best-selling author from Indiana, United States, a politician, and a diplomat. During the first quarter of the 20th century, Nicholson, along with Booth Tarkington, George Ade, and James Whitcomb Riley helped to create a Golden Age of literature in Indiana. Three of his books from that era were national bestsellers: The House of a Thousand Candles, The Port of Missing Men, A Hoosier Chronicle. In 1928, Nicholson entered Democratic party politics, and served for two years as a city councilman in Indianapolis. He rose through the ranks of the Democratic party and was rewarded with appointments as Envoy to Paraguay, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.; 7.40 X 5.20 X 0.90 inches; 189 pages; Signed by Author
