From 1796 to 1802, Harry Toulmin was Secretary of State in Kentucky. He was friends with Thomas Jefferson and James Madison who he met when he came to the US from England in 1792. A great account of the adjustments of an immigrant to his new environment and how one could survive in the colonial United States.
