All three volumes. Original brown boards have heavy edge and corner wear. Spines have been taped over with brown library tape and has white writing. The spines underneath the tape look to be blue cloth. It is not known the condition of the bindings under the tape. These are ex-library from the Peabody Normal College at the University of Nashville with a withdrawn stamp inside on the library labels. Vol 1 and 2 were published in 1835 and covers books in the library up to 1835. Vol. 2 has a rare index for Vol 1 & 2 , Vol 3's index is ehaustive for all three volumes.Vol #3 covers books added from 1835 to 1856. This vol 3 has a presentation label to the "University of Tennessee, Nashville from The Library Company Company of Philadelphia. Front Hinge for vol 3 is al most detached. Volumes 1 & 2 are tight bindings. Contents of all volumes have foxing, otherwise clean. It looks as though Volumes 1 and 3 have had the pages trimmed as Vol. 2 has uneven pages. These rare volumes are some of the first, if not the first, example of subject arrangements used by the Paris Book Sellers of the day who use a new and innovative arrangement style. They are one of the best references for a cross section of the Library of Philadelphia which was the largest library of that era and remains one of the most prestegious libraries in the world. Foxing to pages and hinges may be weak or broken. All three volumes in the set. Rare if not unique.; Vol. 123; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
