1 Partridge, Bellamy Big Freeze
Thomas Y Crowell 1948 First Edition; Various Hardcover Very Good in Fair dust jacket Signed by Author
Author signed above former owners signature. Dust is worn with tears and chips but is now in protective dust cover. "Bellamy Partridge"s historical novel tells a dramatic story of old New York, when the city was a small but cocky town of a mere quarter million. It was in 1832 that David Wakeman, young engineer just out of college, passed through the city when hordes of people fleeing the cholera scourge were streaming to the country. On his way to Philadelphia - to take a job on the new aqueduct - David was appalled at the sight of the panicky fugitives, for he was convinced, as many were not, that it was the medieval system of wells which so many cities still used for their water supply that was spreading the deadly infection." (editorial review) A 1900 graduate of Hobart College, Bellamy Partridge went on to study law, and for about a decade practiced law with his father, Civil War veteran and country lawyer Samuel Selden Partridge, in the little town of Phelps, New York--near Rochester--before striking out as a freelance writer, novelist and popular historian. He died 3 July 1960, in Easton, Connecticut, USA. ; 235 pages; Signed by Author
