Gottschall (1854-1938) was born in Marietta, Pa. At ten he walked thirty miles to a larger town. He jumped a freight, explored Philadelphia and other cities, spent a night in jail with a Union deserter, all before he was twelve. He worked as a printer for fifty years with over 37 newspapers across the country. His travels mainly on the Trans-Continental RR took him to almost all states and Canada and Mexico. In 1876 at age 22 he established Gottschall Remedies: salves, worm pills, and a pill called Life Essence and especially his "Liniment". He was fascinated with Indians and would sell his "Liniment" (53% alcohol) to the Indians whos camps he often visited. He printed numerous religious and Indian publications such as A Collection of Familiar Hymns (1894), Abolished Rites, or Spiritual, not Ceremonial Worship (1909), The Chippewea's Last Turn (1870) and many others. This Sermon Outlines is very rare as it does not appear in list of his other publications. The author had a colorful and adventursome life. He neither drank or smoked, was married twice, and reportedly shot and killed a man and went to hide in the Souix Indian camps. Rare. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 112 pages
