4002 Toledano, Ralph de American Mercury: Nixon the man and his politics
New York , NY American Mercury Magazine 1959 First Impression Paperback Very Good with no dust jacket
Photo of Nixon on cover. Rare. May 1959 edition. The American Mercury was an American magazine published from 1924[1] to 1981. It was founded as the brainchild of H. L. Mencken and drama critic George Jean Nathan. The magazine featured writing by some of the most important writers in the United States through the 1920s and 1930s. After a change in ownership in the 1940s, the magazine attracted conservative writers. A second change in ownership a decade later turned the magazine into a virulently anti-Semitic publication. It was published monthly in New York City. The magazine went out of business in 1981, having spent the last 25 years of its existence in decline and controversy. In 1956, George Lincoln Rockwell was hired as a writer, and later became the founder of the American Nazi Party. In January 1959, Maguire published an American Mercury editorial supporting a theory that there was a Jewish conspiracy for world domination. 4038 Tucker, Spencer C. Brigadier General John D. Imboden Confederate Commander in the Shenandoah
The University Press of Kentucky 2002 081312266X First Edition Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Inscribed bookplate in front of book to former owner and signed by author. John D. Imboden is an important but often overlooked figure in Civil War history. With only limited militia training, the Virginia lawyer and politician rose to the rank of brigadier general in the Confederate Army and commanded the Shenandoah Valley District, which had been created for Stonewall Jackson.

Imboden organized and led the Staunton Artillery in the capture of the U.S. arsenal at Harper’s Ferry. He participated in the First Battle of Bull Run/Manassas and organized a cavalry command that fought alongside Stonewall Jackson in his Shenandoah Valley Campaign. The Jones/Imboden Raid into West Virginia cut the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and ravaged the Kanawha Valley petroleum fields. Imboden covered the Confederate withdrawal from Gettysburg and later led cavalry accompanying Jubal Early in his operations against Philip Sheridan in Sheridan’s Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Imboden completed his war service in command of Confederate prisons in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Spencer C. Tucker fully examines the life of this Confederate cavalry commander, including analysis of Imboden’s own post-war writing, and explores overlooked facets of his life, such as his involvement in the Confederate prison system, his later efforts to restore the economic life of his home state of Virginia by developing its natural resources, and his founding of the city of Damascus, which he hoped to make into a new iron and steel center. Yellow cover. Dust and book look new. Dust in mylar cover. Signed by Ms. Tudor under animal on end paper. Signed in full Tasha Tudor. Tasha Tudor (August 28, 1915 – June 18, 2008) was an American illustrator and author of children's books. Tasha Tudor was born in Boston, Massachusetts as Starling Burgess. She was originally named after her father, the naval architect W. Starling Burgess, known as "the Skipper". As he was an admirer of the War and Peace character Natasha, his daughter was soon re-christened, and the name was eventually shortened to Tasha. When socializing with her mother's friends, Tudor was usually introduced as "Rosamund Tudor's daughter, Tasha", leading others to believe that her last name was Tudor. Liking the sound of it, she adopted the name and eventually changed her surname legally following her first divorce.[2] She married Thomas McCready in 1938 in Redding, Connecticut. Tasha and Thomas McCready purchased a large old farm in Webster, New Hampshire, where four children, Bethany, Seth, Thomas, and Efner, were raised. Her first story, Pumpkin Moonshine, was published in 1938, as a gift for a young niece of her husband. They were divorced in 1961, and her children legally changed their names from McCready to Tudor. A later marriage, to Allan John Woods, lasted only a brief time.[3]Tasha Tudor illustrated nearly one hundred books, the last being Corgiville Christmas, released in 2003. Several were collaborative works with a New Hampshire friend Mary Mason Campbell. Tudor lived in Marlboro, Vermont in a house copied from that of other New Hampshire friends Donn & Doris Purvis. Her son Seth built the replication and lives next door with his family. It is documented in Drawn from New England, and in The Private World of Tasha Tudor. 4041 Tudor, Tasha, with Carol Johnston Lueck The Tasha Tudor Cookbook Recipes and Reminiscences from Corgi Cottage
New York, NY Little, Brown and Company 1993 0316855316 First Edition; Fourth Printing Hardcover As New in As New dust jacket Illustrated by Tasha Tudor Signed by Author
Looks new. Dust is in archival sleeve. Signed by author on page before title page. Features more than 80 of Tasha Tudor's favorite family recipes. These receipts—from Tasha’s Poppyseed Cake to Shepherds Pie, Potato Soup to Chocolate Pudding—have been the mainstay of Tasha's family for generations, and are, for the most part, from the original cookbook she began as a young woman. The simple, comforting, and delicious receipts are accompanied by her beautiful watercolors and new photographs of the food and Tasha’s homestead. World-renowned artist Tasha Tudor charmed and fascinated fans with her sweet illustrations and simple lifestyle. This cookbook echoes the cultural and family narrative so accurately and beautifully reflected in Tasha Tudor's art and life. The receipts (what she called recipes) also suggest Tasha's philosophy. "In all things moderation," she would say, then with a laugh, "except gardening."; Illustrations; 9.10 X 8.20 X 0.70 inches; 144 pages; Signed by Author

4046 Tully, Jim Circus parade / by Jim Tully, illustrated by William Gropper
New York, NY New York : A. & C. Boni 1927 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket
Black cover with red and green illustration. "Jim Tully (June 3, 1886 - June 22, 1947) was a vagabond, pugilist, and American writer. His critical and commercial success in the 1920s and 30s may qualify him as the greatest long shot in American literature.Born near St. Marys, Ohio to James Dennis and Bridget Marie Lawler Tully, an Irish immigrant ditch-digger and his wife, Tully enjoyed a relatively happy but impoverished childhood until the death of his mother in 1892. Unable to care for him, his father sent him to an orphanage in Cincinnati. He remained there for six years. What further education he acquired came in the hobo camps, boxcars, railroad yards, and public libraries scattered across the country. Finally, weary of the road, he arrived in Kent, Ohio, where he worked as a chain maker, professional boxer, and tree surgeon. He also began to write, mostly poetry published in the local newspapers. He moved to Hollywood in 1912, when he began writing in earnest." (Wikipedia)

4048 Turnbridge, Stephen & Don Greer Centurion in action - Armor No. 13

Oblong magazine in archival sleeve for protection. We ship within 24 hours. Scarce in this condition. See scan of actual book being offered. he British really struggled to get a good tank fielded in WW2. The Centurion prototypes were rolled out in April 1945, just too late to see action. However, this tank was of sound design, was in active service from the 40's through the 80's in one form or another. For such a short book, this is very comprehensive coverage. All variants are reviewed here, including the Engineering and special armor types. It may surprise some, but the Centurion fought in Korea, Vietnam (Australians used them) and the Israelis used them to great success. This book was published in 1976, so the conversions to Armored Personnel Carrier are not shown here, but this does not detract from the book.; Autograph; Photographs, Drawings; 10.80 X 8 X 1.30 inches; 50 pages

Montgomery, AL State of Alabama 1960 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Very Good with No dust jacket as issued
White and blue cover with photo of Gov. George C. Wallace. Official Alabama Directory Attractions for Tourists. Numerous photos and stories of Alabama locations. George Corley Wallace, Jr. (August 25, 1919 – September 13, 1998) was an American politician and the 45th Governor of Alabama, having served two nonconsecutive terms and two consecutive terms as a Democrat: 1963–1967, 1971–1979 and 1983–1987. Wallace has the third longest gubernatorial tenure in post-Constitutional U.S. history at 5,848 days. After four runs for U.S. President (three as a Democrat and one on the American Independent Party ticket), he earned the title "the most influential loser" in 20th century U.S. politics, according to biographers Dan T. Carter and Stephan Lesher.A 1972 assassination attempt left Wallace paralyzed, and he used a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. He is remembered for his Southern populist and segregationist attitudes during the mid-20th century period of the African-American civil rights movement and activism, which gained passage of federal civil rights legislation in the mid-1960s to enforce constitutional rights for all citizens. He eventually renounced segregationism but remained a populist.(Wikipedia); Photographs, Maps, Illustrations; 296 pages

Rinehart 1950 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Good in Very Good dust jacket
Likely a first edition, but not stated. uneven cut pages. Some darkening around edges of endpapers. Dust also shows some fading arount outer edges, now in mylar cover. Novel about effect of Nazis on Germany. Richard Julius Hermann Krebs (December 17, 1905 - January 1, 1951), better known by his alias Jan Valtin, was a German writer during the interwar period. He settled to the United States in 1938, and in 1940 (as Valtin) wrote his bestselling book Out of the Night. In 1926, Krebs entered the United States illegally and settled in California. He spent 38 months in San Quentin State Prison for attempting to murder a merchant navy seaman during a brawl, then was deported to Germany in 1929. He worked as a seaman until 1934, when he was arrested and tortured, and acted as a witness for prosecution in a trial that brought to the conviction of a fellow German seaman accused of treason. Valtin/Krebs married again, before 1941, to Abigail Harris, an American. In November 1942, Krebs was also indicted as a Gestapo agent. He was arrested in December 1942 and found innocent in May 1943. The Los Angeles court record revealed that the 1926 crime had no political purpose. In August 1943, Krebs was drafted as an infantryman and deployed in February 1944 to the Philippines in fighting the Japanese in the Pacific War. In 1946, his book Children of Yesterday, an anecdotal history of the 24th Infantry Division was published, describing in graphic detail the horrors of the fighting and everyday life of the division’s troops. He was granted citizenship in 1947 and died in 1951.; 8.40 X 6 X 1.70 inches; 439 pages
