3965 Walpole, Hugh A prayer for my son (author signed)
Doubleday, Doran & Company, inc 1936 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Good with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Green cover shows sunfading. Author signed on end paper. Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole, Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole (13 March 1884 - 1 June 1941) was a New Zealand-born English novelist. He was the son of an Anglican clergyman, intended for a career in the church but drawn instead to writing. His skill at scene-setting, vivid plots, and high profile as a lecturer brought him a large readership in the United Kingdom and North America. He was a best-selling author in the 1920s and 1930s, but has been largely neglected since his death. After his first novel, The Wooden Horse, in 1909, he wrote prolifically, producing at least one book every year. He was a spontaneous story-teller, writing quickly to get all his ideas on paper, seldom revising. His first novel to achieve real success was his third, Mr Perrin and Mr Traill, a tragicomic story of a fatal clash between two schoolmasters. During the First World War he served in the Red Cross on the Russian-Austrian front, and worked in British propaganda in Petrograd and London. In the 1920s and 1930s he was much in demand not only as a novelist but also as a lecturer on literature, making four exceptionally well-paid tours of North America. As a gay man at a time when homosexual practices were illegal in Britain, he conducted a succession of intense but discreet relationships with other men.; 8 X 5.60 X 1.50 inches; 355 pages; Signed by Author

Broke, recently divorced, and a total deadbeat, Bob Wells has spent his life as a psychiatrist only doing good in the world. Emile Bardan is haunted by demons, and he believes that someone is trying to steal his most prized possesion, the legendeary Mask of Utu. Bob thinks it's all part of Emile's imagination until he discovers that Emile is telling the truth and that the mask is worth millions. It's Bob who may actually be the one losing his grip. He's tired of helping people for nothing, tired of being treated like dirt-and while he may have met the girl of his dreams, he doesn't want to lose her because he can't take care of her. 3990 Waters, Captain John M. BLOODY WINTER Critical Months in the Battle of the Atlantic

Book and dust (not price clipped) in very good condition. Former owner's name neatly written in front. Map endpapers. A reviewer said "I am so glad that John Waters took the time to research and write this book. It is extraordinary, accurately capturing in vivid detail the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II. This is a perspective from both the Allied convoy escort ships and the German submarines that were bent on stopping the flow of material from North America to Britain and Russia.As a historical document it is filled with primary source material that has been woven into an accurate true story that makes you feel as if you are actually there experiencing the action as it is described. This is possible because not only did the author thoroughly research the subject using war records, ships logs, and personal interviews he also had first hand experience." ; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 279 pages

Brown cover with gold print and black borders. Clean contents. Rear cover has crease. Not a reprint. Former owners book plate in front.eorge D. Watson was born in Virginia in 1845. His parents and grandparents were Methodists. This, in those days, was a precious heritage. Family prayer, Sunday School, and many other godly influences were thrown around him. Frequently a series of special services would be held in his district, but George declared that he was the black sheep of the flock—passionate and self-willed, the worst boy of the whole six in his family. Though frail in body during his last years, the inner spirit was unquenchable. In 1923, he passed to be forever in the presence of Him, Whom he had sought so constantly to know and to serve on earth.We provide delivery tracking on US orders. ; 162 pages

The book was discovered in parsonage at Moreland, Georgia in 1959 and restored that same year. Rare 1831 printing. "Richard Watson (1781–1833) was a British Methodist theologian who was one of the most important figures in 19th century Methodism.Watson was born in Lincolnshire and entered the Methodist itinerancy in 1796, serving as President of Conference in Britain in 1826 and as secretary to the Wesleyan Missionary Society from 1821 to 1825. In Britain, he was a leading opponent of slavery.Watson was a gifted writer and theologian. In 1818 he wrote a reply to Adam Clarke's doctrine of the eternal Sonship of Christ; Watson believed that Clarke's views were unorthodox and, therefore, not faithfully Wesleyan. In 1823 he began to publish his Theological Institutes, which remained a standard for many years. It was the first attempt to systematize John Wesley's theology and, by extension, Methodist doctrine. In 1831, he wrote a well-regarded life of John Wesley.We provide delivery tracking on US orders." (Wikipedia) ; 7.50 X 5 X 0.50 inches; 323 pages;
