Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. When former NYPD detective Joe Serpe hit bottom, he just kept on going. Living in a basement apartment in a blue collar town on Long Island, Joe spends his days filling tanks with home heating oil and his nights filling his belly with vodka. But when a young retarded man who worked for Joe's oil company is cruelly murdered, Joe Serpe rediscovers purpose and grasps for a last chance at redemption. Dust in protective mylar cover. Signed by Ensign Harlan Twible one of the survivors. "On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia." The definitive account of a little-known chapter in World War II history, In Harm's Way is destined to become a classic tale of war, survival, and extraordinary courage.(Review) In July 1945, Ensign Twible served as a gunnery officer on the USS Indianapolis. The ship had just delivered the atomic bomb and was sailing home when it was attacked by a Japanese submarine. Twible recounted "We were under secret orders, so nobody knew we were hit," "The bow was blown off the ship....Here I was, an Ensign, and I had to give the order to abandon ship," Rare work. ; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 333 pages; Signed by Notable Personage, Related Price:

Staples, Charles Richard The history of pioneer Lexington 1779-1806, Lexington KY Transylvania press 1939 Later; First Impression Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket Red cloth cover. Reprint of the 1939 edition by Staples. A record of Lexington during it's formative years.Lexington, consolidated with Fayette County and often denoted as Lexington-Fayette, is the second-largest city in Kentucky and the 60th-largest city in the United States. By land area, Lexington is the 28th largest city in the United States. Known as the "Horse Capital of the World," it is the heart of the state's Bluegrass region. With a mayor-alderman form of government, it is one of two cities in Kentucky designated by the state as first-class; the other is the state's largest city of Louisville. Lexington was founded by European Americans in June 1775, in what was then considered Fincastle County, Virginia, 17 years before Kentucky became a state. A party of frontiersmen, led by William McConnell, camped on the Middle Fork of Elkhorn Creek (now known as Town Branch and rerouted under Vine Street) at the site of the present-day McConnell Springs. Upon hearing of the colonists' victory in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, they named their campsite Lexington. It was the first of many American places to be named after the Massachusetts town.[5] The risk of Native American attacks delayed permanent settlement for four years. ; Kentucky; 361 pages; Price:
