2326 McConnaughey, Susanne Point Venus
Little, Brown and Company 1951 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket Signed by Author
Inscribed and signed by author on front endpaper. Dust has chips at edges, but now covered in mylar cover. Tahiti, a hundred years before the tidal wave of L.S.T.s, is the setting for the story of Marianna, daughter of a rigidly strict missionary, and her coming of age. The French were trying to seize control and the British missionaries who preceded them were trying desperately to get help from home: Queen Pomare, shabbily treated by the French, was writing pathetic letters to her sister monarch, Victoria. The school on Marianna's beloved Point Venus was closed, and that, together with the death of her father and her necessary move to town, brings her out of her isolated, ivory tower life. She was able then to return the love of the educated, American beach comber, Jonas Burkham, and their liaison shut them out of the life of the town. But they help the natives in their hopeless fight, back in the hills, where their hardships temper their love into durability and Jonas turns again to writing when an injury stops his trading by schooner. Soft breezes for the dog days.(Kirkus Review); 8 X 5.60 X 1.20 inches; 312 pages; Signed by Author

2371 Mclaughlin, Jack Jefferson and Monticello The Biography of a Builder
Henry Holt and Co. 1988 0805004823 First Edition; Various Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket Signed by Author
Author inscribed and signed bookplate. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. This book, a National Book Award nominee in 1988, is the life of Thomas Jefferson as seen through the prism of his love affair with Monticello. For over half a century, it was his consuming passion, his most serious amusement. With a sure command of sources and skilled intuitive understanding of Jefferson, McLaughlin crafts and uncommon portrait of builder and building alike. En route he tells us much about life in Virginia; about Monticello’s craftsmen and how they worked their materials; about slavery, class, and family; and, above all, about the multiplicity of domestic concerns that preoccupied this complex man. It is and engaging and incisive look at the eighteenth-century mind: systematic, rational, and curious, but also playful, comfort-loving, and amusing. Ultimately, it provides readers with great insight into daily life in Colonial and Federal America. ; 1.3 x 8.8 x 6.1 Inches; 289 pages; Signed by Author

Los Angeles, CA Foursquare Publications Inc. 1973 First Edition; Reprint Paperback Very Good with no dust jacket
Rare reprint booklet has photo of author on front. This booklet is protected by an archival quality sleeve to maintain present condition. Aimee Semple McPherson (October 9, 1890 – September 27, 1944), also known as Sister Aimee or simply Sister, was a Canadian-American Pentecostal evangelist and media celebrity in the 1920s and 1930s.[1] She founded the Foursquare Church. McPherson has been noted as a pioneer in the use of modern media, as she used radio to draw on the growing appeal of popular entertainment in North America and incorporated other forms into her weekly sermons at Angelus Temple.[2]In her time she was the most publicized Christian evangelist, surpassing Billy Sunday and her other predecessors.[3][4] She conducted public faith healing demonstrations before large crowds; testimonies conveyed tens of thousands of people healed.[5][6] McPherson's articulation of the United States as a nation founded and sustained by divine inspiration continues to be echoed by many pastors in churches today.News coverage sensationalized her misfortunes with family and church members; particularly inflaming accusations she had fabricated her reported kidnapping, turning it into a national spectacle.[7] McPherson's preaching style, extensive charity work and ecumenical contributions were a major influence to Charismatic Christianity in the 20th century. In slipcase. Looks never read. Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life is the first book by American writer Herman Melville, published first in London, then New York, in 1846. Considered a classic in travel and adventure literature, the narrative is partly based on the author's actual experiences on the island Nuku Hiva in the South Pacific Marquesas Islands in 1842, liberally supplemented with imaginative reconstruction and adaptation of material from other books. The title is from the province Tai Pi Vai. Typee was Melville's most popular work during his lifetime; it made him notorious as the "man who lived among the cannibals". (Wikipedia) ; 409 pages
