Lewis, Pam; Beard, Elliot Speak Softly, She Can Hear A Novel Simon & Schuster 2005 0743255399 First Edition; 1st Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author Looks new. Signed by Author on Title Page. Plastic Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. New York City, 1965: Two Manhattan prep school students, Carole and Naomi, make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation. Eddie, a slick Upper East Side dropout, is handsome, fatally charming, and more than willing to help the girls accomplish their goal. But on one bitterly cold holiday weekend in an isolated cabin deep in the Vermont woods, a horrifying twist develops in the plan. Before the night is over, a stomach-turning secret is sealed between friends, setting in motion a series of events that will have dire and far-reaching consequences. Sweeping across decades, moving from New York to Vermont to California and back again, Lewis tells an utterly gripping, psychologically nuanced tale of friendship between two very different women, of the life-changing burden of a secret, the lies we tell others to save ourselves, and the lies we tell ourselves when the truth is too painful to accept.; (Author Signed); 1.3 x 9.6 x 6.2 Inches; 352 pages; Signed by Author Price:

Lillie, Jared Jared Lillie, 1776, His Book None listed Jared Lillie 1776 First Edition; First Impression Ephemera Good with No dust jacket as issued This handwritten paper dated 1776 looks to be a journal/diary of author. Strings holding text block. There seems to be a missing page and two pages are missing half pages. This is a personal diarylike journal that contains handwritten notes of author in ink with poems, Ben Franklin obituary, Bill of Parcel, an Epitaph, List of children with birth dates from 1785 to 1806. (assumed to be Jared's children but no wife's name given). At the bottom of each page is written "Jared Lillie's book 1776" The handwriting is excellent and there are handwritten "decorations" throughout. Many of the pages have "ink blotting" that makes some pages hard to read. There are also arithmetic computations/calculations on a few pages. Research shows a Jared Lillie born March 27, 1759 to a Elisha and Hulda (Tilden) Lillie from Windham, Ct. This may be the same Jared as one of the children listed in the Journal is Elisha which would be Jared's father's name. There is no listing of a city, state or location in the journal so Windham, Ct could be correct or incorrect. This is an excellent example of a "period" piece of early Americana ephemera dated the year 1776. See scan of cover. Book now in archival sleeve to protect condition. Rare, unique. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 12 pages Price:

Lincoln, Joseph Queer Judson Bristol, Ct D. Appleton 1925 First Edition; Various Hardcover Good in Good dust jacket Signed by Author Author signed "Sincerely yours, Joseph C. Lincoln". Book and dust show wear. Hinges weak. Scarce copy with dust that has chips but has been covered with archival sleeve. Joseph Crosby Lincoln (February 13, 1870 – March 10, 1944) was an American author of novels, poems, and short stories, many set in a fictionalized Cape Cod. Lincoln's work frequently appeared in popular magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post and The Delineator. Lincoln was aware of contemporary naturalist writers, such as Frank Norris and Theodore Dreiser, who used American literature to plumb the depths of human nature, but he rejected this literary exercise. Lincoln claimed that he was satisfied "spinning yarns" that made readers feel good about themselves and their neighbors. Two of his stories have been adapted to film.Lincoln was born in Brewster, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, and his mother moved the family to Chelsea, Massachusetts, a manufacturing city outside Boston, after the death of his father. Lincoln's literary career celebrating "old Cape Cod" can partly be seen as an attempt to return to an Eden from which he had been driven by family tragedy. Lincoln died in 1944, at the age of 73, in Winter Park, Florida; 7.40 X 5.30 X 1.20 inches; 362 pages; Signed by Author Price:

Lincoln, Joseph C. Head Tide New York D. Appleton & Company 1932 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Fair dust jacket Blue cover has minor spotting. Dust has chips and tears with both front and back flap repaired with tape but now in brodart protective cover. Has former owners book plate in front. JOSEPH C. LINCOLN, author of Head Tide an Appleton publication, was born in Brewster, Mass,, on Feb. 13, 1870. Brewster is a typical Cape Cod town, settled by the Pilgrims soon after the landing at Plymouth, and was named for Elder Brewster. But Mr. Lincoln's Cape Cod, as portrayed in his stories, couldn't be found on any map. "His" Cape Cod is not bounded by stilted lines of latitude nor formal lines of longitude. If it suits the purpose of his story to locate an inlet where nature has built promontory, to erect a village in place of woods and marshes, the author has "never hesitated to do so." "Head Tide" is, like the thirty-one volumes which have preceded it in the twenty-eight years since Lincoln's first novel, "Cap'n Eri," was published [1904], about a Cape Cod community, and it is, like most of the later novels, the story of the conflict between an "import" and the natives. "Head Tide" is a good, man sized story of a good man sized job faced with courage. By this time readers are not so completely bedazzled by the quaintness of Mr. Lincoln's characters as they were at first, for they have become accustomed after thirty-one volumes to the local dialect which drove the readers of "Cap'n Eri " into spasms of glee. Lindsey USA Re, LTC Fred S. Secret Green Beret Commandos In Cambodia A Memorial History of MACVSOG's Command and Control Detachment South And Its Air Partners, Republic of Vietnam, 19671972 AuthorHouse 2012 1477273085 First Edition; First Impression Paperback Near Fine with No dust jacket as issued Signed by Author Inscribed and signed by author for seller at a gun show in Louisville, Ky, 2014. We could call this book Special Operations Recon Mission Impossible. A small group of highly trained, resourceful US Special Forces (SF) men is asked to go in teams behind the enemy lines to gather intelligence on the North Vietnamese Army units that had infiltrated through Laos and Cambodia down the Ho Chi Minh trails to their secret bases inside the Cambodian border west of South Vietnam. The covert reconnaissance teams, of only two or three SF men with four or five experienced indigenous mercenaries each, were tasked to go into enemy target areas by foot or helicopter insertion. They could be 15 kilometers beyond any other friendly forces, with no artillery support. In sterile uniforms with no insignia or identification, if they were killed or captured, their government would deny their military connection. The enemy had placed a price on their heads and had spies in their Top Secret headquarters known as SOG. SOG had three identical recon ground units along the border areas. This book tells the history of Command and Control Detachment South (CCS) The CCS volunteer warriors and its Air Partners - the Army and Air Force helicopter transport and gunship crews who lived and fought together and sometimes died together. This is the first published history of CCS as compiled by its last living commander, some forty years after they were disbanded. It tells of the struggles and intrigue involved in SOG's development as the modernday legacy of our modern Special Operations Commands. Forbidden to tell of their experiences for over twenty years; their After Action Reports destroyed even before they were declassified - surviving veterans team together to tell how Recon men wounded averaged 100 percent; and SOG became the most highly decorated unit in Vietnam and all were awarded the Presidential Unit.
