Author was from Cornwall, Orange County, NY and this is not only a history of the faith, doctrines, and practices of the Shakers, but also it is from the perspective of one who left the faith. Shakers were known as one of the most important communistic organization in the United States. Their first community was founded at Mt. Lebanon, N. Y., in 1787. There were thirty-five separate communities with a total membership of one thousand; once they aggregated five thousand. Like the Ephratans, the Shakers were a religious sect and lived in a community life for a religious purpose. Shakers were Quakers that demonstrated a unique "shaking" of the body during religious services. We provide delivery tracking on US orders. Very rare.; 372 pages
