"Ben Tails (aka "Mr. Slide") leaves a bloody trail indeed in Cook's gripping tale of a modern warrior's journeys from Montana to Vietnam and other parts of Asia, always returning home, always searching. His skills as hunter and marksman turn him into a deadly sniper, while his Vietnam War experiences leave him disillusioned and aware that he has been manipulated for evil purposes. He stays for years in Asia, where he learns Mandarin and does his best to suppress the violent side of himself he calls Mr. Slide. Tails's core values make him far more interesting than the run-of-the-mill action hero, and when one of the rare people he trusts lures him from Montana to Japan for a simple job selling motorcycles—and sussing out bad guys—Mr. Slide may have to reappear. Tails soon discovers that he's being used as a pawn in a deadly and vicious high stakes game. Graphic violence, penetrating, incisive analysis of complex cultural and historical events and one man's heroic defiance make Cook's long overdue second novel (after 1988's Graveyard Rules) an event to celebrate. This is a writer with something to say and immense skills with which to say it." (May) ; 1.75 x 9 x 6.25 Inches; 465 pages; p; Signed by Author

Green cloth hardback with gilt lettering. Book is clean and tight and looks almost new. Dust has 3 inch chip from bottom of spine areas and other tears. Dust now in brodart protective cover. First edition stated with A-V code with original $2.50 price printed on dj flap. This is Grey's tale of Wade Holden, the toughest, fastest triggerman in the famous Simm Bell gang. They robbed trains & banks, created mayhem & evaded the Texas Rangers. Pearl Zane Grey (January 31, 1872 - October 23, 1939) was an American dentist and author best known for his popular adventure novels and stories associated with the Western genre in literature and the arts; he idealized the American frontier. Riders of the Purple Sage (1912) was his best-selling book. Pearl Zane Grey was born in Zanesville, Ohio. His birth name may have originated from newspaper descriptions of Queen Victoria's mourning clothes as "pearl grey".[2] He was the fourth of five children born to Alice "Allie" Josephine Zane, whose English Quaker immigrant ancestor Robert Zane came to the North American colonies in 1673, and her husband, Lewis M. Gray, a dentist.[3] His family changed the spelling of their last name to "Grey" after his birth. Later Grey dropped Pearl and used Zane as his first name. He grew up in Zanesville, a city founded by his maternal great-grandfather Ebenezer Zane, an American Revolutionary War.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 278 pages

New York Harpercollins Publishers 2002 0060194413 / 9780060194413 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket Signed by Author
Inscribed to Barb and Jeff and signed by author. Dust jacket now in Brodart mylar protective (clear) cover. From the author of the New York Times bestseller In Her Defense comes a riveting new thriller of betrayal and redemption in the nation's capital.Philip Barkley had come far enough in Washington to know where those proverbial bodies were buried, but not so far that he'd lie about it. In the capital, that was no-man's-land, and his fall from grace was swift. When personal tragedy accelerates his downward spiral, all that remains is his integrity, and it's the price of a fresh start. The disappearance of Senate Intelligence Committee aide Martin Green indicates a breach of national security. Senator Warren Young, the party's best chance to keep the White House, needs a credible report that the missing man was no spy. Barkley is required to oversee the investigation and deliver the "right" result. As the case progresses, the signs grow more troubling, and even an FBI agent isn't what she seems. The pursuit of Green leads across generations, a trail of deception and murder that began with a woman's fall from a Bronx rooftop almost fifty years earlier.Barkley's odyssey finally brings him to the door of a retired detective haunted by a case he never solved. Together, the two men seek justice -- and their own renewal. .; 1.3 x 8.9 x 6 Inches; 330 pages; p; Signed by Author
