To D-Day and Back Adventures with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a World War II POW: A memoir, Bearden, Bob
2 Bearden, Bob To D-Day and Back Adventures with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a World War II POW: A memoir
Zenith Press/Author 2007 0760332584 / 9780760332580 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket
Signed by two World War II heros, Bob Bearden on title page and by another 507th infantryman Jim "Pee Wee" Martin. Bob Bearden's To D-Day and Back was not just another paratrooper-themed memoir trying to ride on the success of others. Several distinctions set this work apart from others. Bearden told his story from a very personal angle. Coupled with the use of everyday prose, the book is another one of those works that felt much like storytelling by a member of the family. It is not just another war memoir, but rather, the book told how the war interacted with Bearden's life. n the predawn hours of D-Day, June 6, 1944, Bob Bearden and his comrades in the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment jumped into the inky skies over Normandy. Their mission: defend the west bank of the Merderet River against German counterattack. After long months of training they were finally taking the war to the Germans. Bearden’s time in combat proved shortlived, however, when he was captured on D-plus-2, June 8. This was only the beginning of a new war for his survival through multiple German POW camps, his so-called “liberation” by Russian tanker crews more bent on exacting vengeance upon the Germans than safeguarding Allied prisoners, and the perilous journey that followed, mostly on foot, along the sandy, snow-covered roads of Germany and Poland on the way to Moscow and eventually, back home to Dallas, Texas.(from inside flap) ; Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 304 pages; Signed by Collection of Signatures

4 Constable, Trevor J.; Toliver, Raymond F. Horrido! Figher Aces of the Luftwaffe
New York Macmillan 1968 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
Book and dust in very good condition. Has former owners name neatly written in front. Dust now in mylar protective cover. Introduction by Lt. General Adolph Galland, General of the Fighter Arm, 1941-45. The Luftwaffe was the aerial warfare branch of the combined German Wehrmacht military forces during World War II. The Luftwaffe proved instrumental in the German victories across Poland and Western Europe in 1939 and 1940. During the Battle of Britain, however, despite inflicting severe damage to the RAF's infrastructure and, during the subsequent Blitz, devastating many British cities, the German air force failed to batter the beleaguered British into submission. (Wiki) Horrido is a hunting expression used in Germany. German hunters say “Horrido” and the crowd answers “Yo”. Horrido was also a German fighter pilots training manual. Published in June of 1944, this little book was a manual to teach fighter pilots how to correctly engage their target – how to gauge distances, when to shoot. As in the US, many of the little German military manuals of this time period also included funny cartoons to help soldiers better memorize their content.
