NAL Hardcover 2010 0451229908 / 9780451229908 First Edition; Later Printing Hardcover Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket Signed by Author
Signed by author in February 2011 at gun show in Louisville, KY and seller witnessed the signing. Beautiful scarce collectors grade copy of this book. Dust Jacket now in Mylar Protective Cover. An unvarnished and moving memoir of a Marine veteran who fought his way across the Pacific Theater of World War II-whose story is featured in the upcoming HBO(r) series The Pacific This is an eyewitness-and eye-opening-account of some of the most savage and brutal fighting in the war against Japan, told from the perspective of a young Texan who volunteered for the Marine Corps to escape a life as a traveling salesman. R.V. Burgin enlisted at the age of twenty, and with his sharp intelligence and earnest work ethic, climbed the ranks from a green private to a seasoned sergeant. Along the way, he shouldered a rifle as a member of a mortar squad. He saw friends die-and enemies killed. He saw scenes he wanted to forget but never did-from enemy snipers who tied themselves to branches in the highest trees, to ambushes along narrow jungle trails, to the abandoned corpses of hara kiri victims, to the final howling banzai attacks as the Japanese embraced their inevitable defeat. An unforgettable narrative of a young Marine in combat, Islands of the Damned brings to life the hell that was the Pacific War. Horrido! Figher Aces of the Luftwaffe, Constable, Trevor J.; Toliver, Raymond F.
6 Constable, Trevor J.; Toliver, Raymond F. Horrido! Figher Aces of the Luftwaffe
New York Macmillan 1968 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good in Very Good dust jacket
Book and dust in very good condition. Has former owners name neatly written in front. Dust now in mylar protective cover. Introduction by Lt. General Adolph Galland, General of the Fighter Arm, 1941-45. The Luftwaffe was the aerial warfare branch of the combined German Wehrmacht military forces during World War II. The Luftwaffe proved instrumental in the German victories across Poland and Western Europe in 1939 and 1940. During the Battle of Britain, however, despite inflicting severe damage to the RAF's infrastructure and, during the subsequent Blitz, devastating many British cities, the German air force failed to batter the beleaguered British into submission. (Wiki) Horrido is a hunting expression used in Germany. German hunters say “Horrido” and the crowd answers “Yo”. Horrido was also a German fighter pilots training manual. Published in June of 1944, this little book was a manual to teach fighter pilots how to correctly engage their target – how to gauge distances, when to shoot. As in the US, many of the little German military manuals of this time period also included funny cartoons to help soldiers better memorize their content. 13 Lord, Walter Incredible Victory by Walter Lord
Harper & Row 1967 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
Black cloth with gold print. Dust shoews wear and is price clipped. Copyright 1967. The Battle of Midway was a decisive naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II which occurred between 4 and 7 June 1942, only six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea. he Japanese public and much of the military command structure were kept in the dark about the extent of the defeat: Japanese news announced a great victory. Only Emperor Hirohito and the highest Navy command personnel were accurately informed of the carrier and pilot losses. Consequently, even the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) continued to believe, for at least a short time, that the fleet was in good condition. The Battle of Midway has often been called "the turning point of the Pacific". (wiki); 1967-06-05; Photographs, Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 331 pages

Viking 1977 0670437654 / 9780670437658 First Edition; First Impression Hardcover Very Good in Good dust jacket
Book and dust in good to very good condition. "The Coastwatchers, also known as the Coast Watch Organisation, Combined Field Intelligence Service or Section C, Allied Intelligence Bureau, were Allied military intelligence operatives stationed on remote Pacific islands during World War II to observe enemy movements and rescue stranded Allied personnel. They played a significant role in the Pacific Ocean theatre and South West Pacific theatre, particularly as an early warning network during the Guadalcanal campaign. In early November 1942, two coastwatchers named Read and Mason on Bougainville Island radioed early warnings to the United States Navy about Japanese warship and air movements (citing the numbers, type, and speed of enemy units) preparing to attack the US Forces in the Solomon Islands. Admiral William Halsey, Jr. later said that the two men had saved Guadalcanal because their reports allowed US forces to launch aircraft in time to engage the attackers."
